3 ways to wear a white shirt

March is quite a tricky time of year sartorially speaking, not yet into our summer cottons and yet our winter woollies are looking a tad jaded. The white shirt (substitute cream or off white if pure white is too stark for your complexion), one of the central pieces in a well planned wardrobe, can ride to the rescue like a knight in shining armour and act as a bridge between seasons. It can be worn under a cardigan or jacket or on its own.

Here I have experimented with 3 ways to work a classic white shirt.

Thank you. I really love to hear from you and appreciate the time you take to leave comments.

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Great ideas, I am going to borrow the first one, and in fact I am going to copy that photo for my "ideas" book. Thanks!

  • I find that nothing, but nothing is quite as useful in the Spring as a classic navy blazer. I know it's very 20th century but until someone comes up with a more practical alternative, I'm sticking to it! On days like we're having at the moment, navy blue with white and gold looks stunning. On greyer days navy with grey or tan looks amazing. It's just such a quick and comfortable way to freshen up your wardrobe and worth the one off investment.

  • I try to love my white shirt, but it gets neglected because I'm lazy, grabbing a knit that doesn't take careful ironing. But I love them, especially a white shirt, dark denim jeans and cashmere cardi. A classic navy blazer is too mannish for me but perfect on others. I do better with a soft shawl in beautiful colours or interesting pattern.
