It is not often that I get to stay in such a magnificent French chateau. We recently had the honour of being invited to celebrate the 60th birthday of a very long standing friend. In fact someone I had known since my late teens. I have several very close friends from this time in my life that I still keep in close contact with. Even though our lives have taken very different paths, both geographical and in lifestyle, there is nothing to replace those long term friendships. Anyway back to a week-end of fun and celebration. What I found interesting was the very different approaches to sartorial elegance between the British guests and their French neighbours. The Brits tended to be more eccentric and colourful whilst the French women of a certain age were dressed classically and elegantly mostly in black.
