A classic blazer is a wardrobe staple

A classic blazer is a wardrobe staple. Before I went away to France I bought a couple of blazers in the Me&Em sale. This green double-breasted longline blazer is one of them. It is reduced from £285.00 to £91.00. In my opinion a bargain for a well-cut tailored blazer. I paid a bit more for mine; I think that they have taken another 20% off. A classic double-breasted blazer is a wardrobe basic. If double-breasted styles do not suit your height or figure shape there are plenty of single-breasted styles available.

It seems very indulgent to buy two blazers, I will be showing you my black single-breasted one in a further post. I ordered the two with the intention of returning one. My excuse was that they were so different in style and would both fit well into my wardrobe. Blazers/jackets form the basis of my wardrobe, they are items that I keep for many years. I have one dating back to 1995 which I still wear. There are many items of clothing that you can economise on but I consider that there are two exceptions. One is a well-cut blazer made with quality fabric and the other is a winter coat; again this needs to be substantially made.

The blouse I am wearing under my blazer is from Winser London available at JohnLewis&Partners. Reduced in the sale from £189 to £99.

One of the wardrobe staples that I have worn repeatedly for the last couple of years is my grey lightweight blazer.

Changing the look by swapping the blouse for a cotton white tee. Black trousers many years old.

MeandEm still has an excellent selection of jackets in their sale. Some styles may be low on sizes.

P.S. For my American readers.

Despite the current hot weather some of us like to plan our wardrobes early.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale; is now open; their biggest and probably best of the year. If you have early access it’s worth a browse.

The Anniversary Sale works differently. It is unlike your typical sale, instead of the items starting off at full price then being discounted, the new season’s stock starts on sale.

This opportunity does not happen in any other stores that I am aware of and definitely not in Europe. Popular items sell out fast so early access makes a difference.

I will be choosing my picks shortly and adding a link to them in the menu section at the top of the blog. Even if you do not feel like making any purchases I find that it is good to take a look at the new season’s styles and colours for ideas as to how to adapt and prepare our wardrobes for the new season.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • You look super-chic in your blazer! But I’m not looking forward to getting out of summer clothes just yet. The weather is so nice here in Canada and working from home, so still in fairly casual clothes and flip flops.

  • Hi Julia
I know what you mean I am still in my linens. When I buy in the sales I tend to buy forward then I have something to look forward to when the weather changes, My jacket is currently stored in a suit cover ready to be worn again in September.

  • You look beautiful in that blazer, Josephine. Me and Em tailoring is fabulous. I bought their single breasted version in fuchsia pink with two pairs of trousers (cropped and wide leg styles). They arrived the day before lockdown and are still unworn. I can’t wait to wear them when I eventually return to an office - or go anywhere other than the supermarket.

  • You look super cool and stylish ..
My daughters are now ages 19 & 21 ..it is a bit of a joke in our immediate family ..as i have always said ..a blazer can take one anywhere ..
Thank you To shine for validating
