Add a touch of colour to a classic outfit

At the beginning of August, I wrote a post entitled A classic Summer look. It proved to be very popular. So I decided to take the same outfit and add a touch of colour. I chose a light wool pink jacket. We have had such a gorgeous hot Summer this year that even the mention of wool brought me out in a sweat. However good things do not last forever and the evenings are beginning to draw in.

In a recent post “style Inherited or learnt”, I talked about finding your own style. My favourite outfits tend to fall into the category of classic with a twist. This look definitely falls into my comfort zone. I like to keep my basics neutral and then add a touch of colour to a classic outfit or an on-trend accessory or two just to jazz things up.

I found this lovely pink jacket in the Benetton shop in St.Tropez. Whatever happened to Benetton, it seems to have disappeared from our high streets. They used to offer some great reasonably priced basics. I finally tracked it down online. They no longer have the same jacket but do stock a coat in a similar colour.

By adding a touch of colour to a classic outfit you can get more mileage from your classics. Pink continues to be included in the Pantone colours for this Autumn. It teams very well with the greens and deeper pinks. You can add any colour jacket or coat that works for you to achieve the same effect. There are plenty of warm rich Autumnal colours starting to arrive in the shops.

I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • The Pink looks fantastic on you. I always used to by Benetton Jumpers. Yes, what happened to them? Everything seems to be disappearing!

  • I love the pop of color on you. I like basic colors in my clothes as flowery fabric gets tiring. You have some neat shoes on with this outfit! Could you tell me what brand of shoes you are wearing?

    • Hi Sue

My trainers were from Marks&Spencer a couple of years ago. They have similar here M&S trainers Mine have small diamanté studs on but are slip on not lace up.

  • Agree about adding colour. I’ve loved this summer’s yellow but am unsure how it will translate to winter- not that I’m planning winter quite yet.....Hoping to get a bit more wear out of summer still.

  • This is a lovely look on you and totally agree about adding pops of colour to our basics. As to Benetton, what did happen to them? I still have a lovely wool scarf I bought many years ago and I still wear in the depths of winter.

  • That pink is stunning with your hair, did you find “new” colours looking good when your transitioned to silver?

    • Yes definitely since my hair has gone grey I look better in the light bright cool colours. I still wear my darks as base colours but make sure I add some colour near my face. Some of the greys I used to wear now look drab. I will struggle a bit this season because finally, the warm colours have come to the fore.

  • You’re absolutely right About Benetton where did it go? I like the idea about adding a splash of colour to your everyday neutral clothes, you definitely get more wear.
