Alternatives to the LBD

I know many of us love the tried and tested LBD and I agree that it is useful to have one in our wardrobes. I have had a Nicole Farhi chiffon version that I have had for many years.

Black is an easy option it goes with everything and is a good staple if you are travelling. All you need to do is add a stunning piece of jewellery a pair of black pumps and you are ready to go. A shawl or pashmina can add some colour near the face if black is not your most flattering colour.

If you still want to wear black I have selected a few options to the dress, most of the styles come in other colours should you want to add a little pazaz to the holiday season.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I so rarely wear dresses anymore and am always happy to see some chic alternatives! Lovely choices and accessories.

  • Love your suggestions. I absolutely never wear dresses anymore..love the pretty lace top!

    • Hi Jeannine Apologies I should have explained LBD stands for Little Black Dress often a staple in a woman's wardrobe that can be the default go to piece for many social occasions.

  • This post was very nice. This was post was very interesting. It was very nice to read this post.
And the accessories shown above are very nice and in a perfect combination.

  • Brilliant idea, and trousers do away with the wearing of wretched tights, the problem of what dress length and appropriate shoes. I'm all in favour!

  • I struggle at this time of the year and indeed anytime because having had "my colours done" I really can't wear black- it drains me even if I accessorise with colour near my face. Can you suggest some alternatives in navy perhaps?
