Bold prints make a statement this summer

Prints and patterns are everywhere this season. They range from stripes, spots (which I noticed were very au courant with the Parisians when I visited Paris a few weeks ago ), florals, tribal et al.

How to make them work for you.

All this choice can prove a bit confusing for a “plain Jane” type of girl like me. However I soon found that if you work within colour families and pattern stories the task becomes easier and the opportunities to be more adventurous  greater.  Sticking to these two simple rules created some really stunning outfits.

I have created some chic and personal ways to adopt this trend. What do you think?

What could be fresher than sky blue when the sun is shining.

Tribal, bold and with eastern promise.

Copy the Parisians with spots all the way.

Remember

Rule 1. Keep the colour family harmonious

Rule 2  Keep the print story compatible

Rule 3  Enjoy playing with prints and patterns this Summer

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • You look awesome in that dress! I really like all of the prints you selected and the colors. Great summer dress!

  • I love them all, but especially the one you're wearing. I wonder if I can get it in Canada. I have a wedding to attend in August and the bride has asked us to wear long dresses. This is one I can see on myself!

    • Hi Pondside
I have emailed the PR to find out if they ship internationally. I can't find anything on their site.

    • Hi Kathe
I know however I did not have time to get it shortened before the photoshoot. It will go to my dressmakers next week plus appropriate shoes so that it is the correct length.

  • You are stunning in polka dots. Love how the dress fits to perfection. You have inspired me to check my closet for dots!

  • I love the dot dress and the blue outfits. I'm not sure I would wear dotted pants. I also like stripes.

  • The dress is lovely (love polka dots) and you look beautiful. May I say that I find your bangs too long - you look like you are peering out from under them - or perhaps too heavy - in any case, I think experimenting with them might lighten up the look.

    Otherwise, perfecto.

  • I have a tribal skirt, the material actually printed in Africa. A lovely woman from Nigeria came up to me and said I was wearing "her people's clothes"! You look great in polka dots. Are you wearing sneakers with that? Love it.
