This last month seems to have been uneventful here in London. I have continued my pilates classes on Zoom twice a week and regularly attend my Nordic walking group every Thursday. I did manage one photoshoot in Kew Gardens with my photographer. Luckily it was a beautiful sunny day and you can see the results here. This has given me the time for a few hours here and there to relax on the sofa and read a good book. So here are my book recommendations for May.
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley. Who does not like a good murder mystery? I have always been a great fan of Agatha Christie with my favourite character being Hercule Poirot. We downloaded the audio version of this novel and listened to it on our 12-hour journey down to the South of France last Summer. It certainly helped pass the time. I can’t believe that was not far off a year ago. We are hoping to drive down there in June but who knows.
Saving Missy by Beth Morrey
I have just finished this book and really loved it. At the beginning it seemed to be quite a depressing subject on which to base a novel, however it soon became inspiring and uplifting when the people in a small community began to support each other. If you love dogs you will definitely like this book
The Vanishing act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O’Farrell
It is a while since I read this book so I had to remind myself of the characters. In some ways this is a heartbreaking story of how a family especially a vulnerable teenage girl were torn apart by tragedy. Yet the characters are very engaging and it became compelling reading and a need to discover the truth.
JFKennedy biography Volume 1 Amazon
I have not read this book. It was recommended by a friend whose judgment I trust. It covers the history of the Kennedy family from 1917 to 1956. It has a five-star rating on Amazon. If any of you have read it please do leave your opinions in the comments box.

Just finished “Anxious People” by Fredrik Backman who also wrote “A Man Called Ove”. Anxious People is about a incompetent desperate bank robber holding a group of people hostage in an apartment open house and how they all come to know each other and support each other including the robber. It is funny and sweet and a real page turner!
Thank you, I will follow these up! For those interested in JFK, you may like A Cruel and Shocking Act by Philip Shenon. This is a detailed review of the work of the Warren Commission, drawing on testimony of the young lawyers - now elderly men and women - who worked for the Commission. As someone who only vaguely remembers the assassination and was too young to follow the subsequent investigation, I found it fascinating.
