Bright colours can be flattering

When the weather gets really cold and wintry I find that a bright coloured coat, especially a flattering red, can lift the spirits. I have had the above coat by Nicole Farhi for many years and never seem to grow tired of it.

Our skin can become pale at this time of year and a rich colour can throw a more flattering light onto the face than a dark neutral.

What colours are you attracted to that bring you joy every time you wear them?

Red coat Nicole Farhi similar //  Ethnic shawl from St. Tropez market. Etsy have some great ones  // grey knitted tunic.

How to change the look with a different necklace.

Here I have added a different necklace that helps to bring out the colour of the coat. Necklace a few years ago from MarksandSpencer. A good selection at Nordstrom.

Just back from Paris. Had a wonderful time. I will get the photos posted as soon as possible. In the meantime I have a couple up on my Instagram

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Yes, it's a lovely combination, the shaw adds interest and as you bought it in France, rather unique. I particularly like buying items when abroad too, that you won't see on our high street.

  • I love your capsule. I'm intrigued by the jumper with detachable cowl. Does it just sit independently or attach in some way? I sew and would love to incorporate this design into a tunic. I found your blog via Une Femme...enjoy your time in Paris!

    • Hi Cindyann
      Welcome to my blog.
With regard to the jumper. The cowl neck is not attached. I just put it over my head and it sits on top of the crew neck making a turtle neck style. You could also use it as a headband to keep your ears warm.
