I thought that I would put together a capsule wardrobe comprising the items I will be taking with me on my upcoming two weeks stay in France.  The above items will constitute what I will be basing my everyday looks around this Spring.

I have chosen blue as my main colour. You could substitute whatever spring colour works best for you. As usual I have kept my trousers dark navy/black and added the lighter colours for my sweaters/tops etc. I plan to travel in the jeans, leather coat and Stan Smith sneakers with the winserlondon blue cape round my shoulders. I will probably add my straw fedora hat.

Shown above:

From left to right Embroidered white kaftan // Navy trousers (similar) //  Blue cotton roll neck sweater last season (similar) // Straight jeans // Navy sleeveless jacket  //  Blue spot shirt (sold out similar)  //  leather coat  // Pale blue reversible cape  // White sneakers  // Navy/white slip-ons (similar) //  navy mules  (US link) // Blue silk scarf

Shown above:

Straw hat (sold out similar)  // silk scarf  // white tee shirt  //  sunglasses (old similar) // necklace St. Tropez (similar)  // Vichy SPF50 BB cream

This is not my total wardrobe. I keep a supply of basics such as lingerie, underwear, tee shirts and summer linens at our apartment in France. With the additions of these items I reckon this capsule would work for most occasions at this time of year.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I love the fact that you include the detail brand information on all the wardrobe items you discuss. Thank you, thank you for doing the leg work for many of us.

  • Blues are so lovely. And soothing in any season. Have a great holiday. And if you make another overnight stop along the way I hope you'll post about your experiences. Loved reading about your last stop-over.

    • Hi Ann
We only drive down once a year normally in January. It is a long way. Most of the time we fly but I will definitely cover any stop-overs we might have.

  • I was in East a couple of weeks ago. They had some lovely items there. I bought two tops and they gave me the silk scarf for free. I was so surprised I am afraid I forgot to ask what I had done to deserve it. It is really pretty and will go with your lovely blue collection of clothes. I already have most of your pieces. I think I must be turning into a clone!

    • Hi Pat
Glad you got some good pieces at East. I think that this season's collection is good. The scarf if particularly gorgeous.

  • I have recently discovered your blog and have enjoyed it and recommended it on my blog as well. Thank you for demonstrating how you use a capsule. I'm afraid most bloggers don't use that wardrobe planning concept, especially in the US, unfortunately. I look forward to sharing some of your trip. Thank you.

  • Very helpful and just in time, I leave Wednesday. Great to see what a professional chooses as the basics, instead of packing too much.

A tip for preparing to pack. I had two elegant hooks attached to the inside of the spare room door. No room for rack like yours, I am afraid. Then I collect items (cleaned and mended if necessary) all together ready for packing. This way my packing doesn't invade the whole house!

It is also then easy to do a quick weight check while still on the hangers, if you are flying by you know who!

    • Hi Kathryn
Sounds like you are very organised. I have had my rack for many years. It does fold down and go in a cupboard. I used to use it for lectures when I was working as an Image Consultant. I used to make 24 outfits with 6 garments plus accessories.

  • I also like the light blue colour. It is clean and elegant for spring and summer. Have a nice trip to France and a lovely sunday.

  • As I am about to fly to Cyprus for a few days I found your capsule Spring wardrobe very helpful although I will have bright coral instead of pale blue. Many thanks and enjoy your break.
