Capsule wardrobe for week-end break

My recent trip to Wales was the ideal occasion to put my choices to the test. The three days consisted of exploring the beautiful Welsh countryside, a touch of shopping in the historic town of Hay-on-Wye and evenings spent in the local bistro pubs with friends plus one delicious meal in a local Michelin star restaurant.  The weather was anything but clement – cold with gusty winds and intermittent drizzle. I was glad of my layers.

Walking in the rain.  Blue sweater + navy dress under waterproof coat.

Navy dress + leggings.  (It was freezing cold in Wales so I was glad of this combination).

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Josephine, what a fabulous use of just a few pieces! You are so creative with combining and creating outfits.

  • Your boots look great! I need nice looking boots for walking the dog in our wet climate. What brand are you wearing or what brands have you found work for rainy days?

  • Josephine, what an amazing capsule wardrobe! It doesn't look like a "capsule"at all. The navy dress is gorgeous on you, showing off your small waist (who at our age has a small waist?! How do you do it?). I am getting inspired for my next trip.

    • Hi Lynne
Thanks for the compliment. I naturally have a small waist to hip ratio which is often tricky when buying dresses. This one drapes beautifully and flatters the waist.

  • Smart choices. My best friend lives in Wales and she constantly informs me of the harsh weather there. But she also says it's a beautiful place. Nice blog, btw!

  • That is one of the most fantastic dresses I've ever seen. It didn't look like much at the top, but seeing how lovely it was on you I clicked over to the website - wow! It is gorgous for most body types, just as they allude. Brilliant pick!

  • Hello Josephine,I'm french,50' and I love your blog! I bought the same coat as you for a travel in may and I'm very enjoyed with it (demi price House of Fraser and ship very quickly for France) Sorry for my bad english!

    • Hi Veronique
Really glad you like the coat. I find mine very useful, at least in London, not so much when we are in the South of Franc.
