Casual chic – The big easy

I admit that I like to “slob” around a bit at the week-end and wear really comfy clothes.  Provided I don’t have any important social occasions to attend I like to go for long walks or curl up on the sofa and read the Sunday papers.  I was therefore pleased to learn that “casual sportswear” looks are back in fashion. Sweatshirts and sneakers to the ready.

They are even being worn with loose-fitting wider trousers. Now I know that this look may not be for everybody so if you prefer a slimmer look on the legs you can team your “sweats” with your skinny or straight jeans.

Here I thought I would try the full look.

I have put together the above outfits from my existing wardrobe. Below are some similar looks.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Casual chic at its best! You're making me think I really need to look for a fedora. :-) Thanks so much for the mention.

  • Just found your blog and love it. I must get a new fedora, mine is battered beyond redemption but will wait to see if we get a proper summer here in the North of England. Just being nosey but is your hair cut in a sort of layered bob as I'm looking for inspiration for my fine, straight hair.

  • Hi Marilyn and welcome to my blog. Yes my hair is cut in a layered bob. The fringe is a bit long at the moment I am due for a trim.

  • I love these casual weekend looks, I like to be comfortable indoors at weekends now, I never get up and put jeans on any more. When packing I pretty much always use a carry on and I put heavy stuff on top as it keeps everything in place x

  • Being 50+, I like to combine practicality and comfort (with a touch of style) when I an taking long walks, gardening or relaxing around the house. Your sportswear collections would certainly "fit the bill". Warm regards.

  • Hi Josephine - I looked at your blog after reading about it in Woman and Home. I think it's great as it's the sort of snippets to do with clothes, fashion and travel that I love reading and having all the photos is great - I'm going to be a regular now!

  • Thank you so much for sharing your lovely chapeau with Hat Attack. The perfect way to top off casual chic. Along with your smile, of course!

  • I LOVE that hat. I have been looking for a fedora, but have such an impossibly large head that it makes the search difficult. Maybe in the mens department....anyway, the grey sweatshirt/hat combo is inspired...
