Fashion exhibition

Christian Dior exhibition Paris

I was so glad that I was visiting Paris while the “Christian Dior: Couturier du Rêve”  exhibition was on. It was spectacular. Susan of Unefemme and I had luckily booked tickets in advance because the queues were long. If you are able to get to Paris before the exhibition closes on 7th January 2018 I would highly recommend a visit.

Above is a picture of the grand hall, where the magnificent ballgowns were on show. The photo does not give you the full perspective of the size and grandeur of the hall. It also had a video showing a selection of celebrities and royalty wearing the gowns.

What a stunning colour and feminine shape.

One of the signatures of Christian Dior’s style was the emphasis on the waist and the “new look” wide skirt.

As you descended one of the staircases the wall in front was covered in magazine covers featuring “Dior gowns” worn by elegant models of the era and photographed the worlds top photographers.

Christian Dior loved flowers and gardens and one of the rooms depicted a magical garden with the dresses reflecting floral patterns.

One of my favourites. The delicate beading and embroidery were exquisite.

And of course not forgetting the famous Dior perfumes.

Hope you enjoyed this mini-tour. Do try and get to the exhibition if you can.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • What some beautiful gowns and so feminine, thank you for sharing them, i don't expect to be going to Paris any time soon, but you never know !

  • It was absolutely breathtaking. Such a privilege to see these works of art in person. A must see for anyone who loves classic fashion.

  • Thank you for sharing this as I am unlikely to be visiting. The gowns are spectacular but what always gets me is the tailoring in the suits of the 40s and 50s from the designers of the period.

  • Thank you for this lovely blog post about the Christian Dior show. I went online hoping to find somewhere that exhibition video you describe (above) highlighting celebrities and royalty wearing his pieces, but without success.

I did find some more recent photos of today's celebrities wearing Dior dress-up and street pieces. But nice as some are, they're just not as glorious as the Diors in the exhibition. What glorious art those things were. And the civilian "new look" pieces from those days are so timeless. They make me want to start sewing again.

    Thank you again!

    • Hi Ann

I don't think they showed the video outside the exhibition. It really was a magnificent exhibition.

  • You ,the vivienne files, and Vogue patterns are my main sources of fashion education. I have been making most of my clothes since age 13 and truly love it.

    • That sounds great Jeannie. I used to make my clothes when I was younger. I am afraid that my eyesight is no longer good enough for sewing.
