Cool linen – so comfortable in summer

I love the look of linen in summer, so cool, so chic. It is floaty and breathable, just the fabric you want to slip on when it is hot and humid, as it is here in France at the moment.

I keep a selection of linen trouser, skirts and tops here as they form the backbone of my summer wardrobe whilst I am in France. They are mostly white and cream and I have had them for many years.  As I got them out of the wardrobe for inspection I found that many were slightly yellow and frayed round the edges.

I decided to take myself off to the local boutique “et voila” I came away with the ensemble above. Straight trousers and slightly flared top with sleeves to cover my arms, perfect. I have worn both the trousers and top, together and teamed with other items in my wardrobe almost continually over the last two weeks.

I know that linen creases however I am ok with that slightly “lived in, shabby chic look”.  Do you like linen or do you shy away from it in favour of something crisper?

I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I live in linen in the summer, I don't mind the creases. It still looks chic.
Love your outfit and the colour.

  • I do love your outfit and colour - I personally like all shades of blue, however, I just cant get on with linen and always feel too warm in it. I much prefer silk, especially when temperatures go over 35C .Not worried about the crinkles, as silk does this as well. Maybe I'm not buying the right sort of linen ?

  • Love linen. Have several pairs of linen trousers from previous years but this summer have found it necessary to take them in at the sides as they are far too baggy. I iron them after each wear as don't like the unmade bed look.

  • I LOVE linen and rarely bother to iron it! The blue top and trousers that you are wearing are beautiful. I have several Eileen Fisher linen blouses, shorts and layering sweaters for my 2 year stay in Hawaii. I agree with M-T, linen has a fabulous shabby chic look to it.

  • I do have quite a lot of linen but it doesn't seem as appealing as it usually does- perhaps because it needs sunshine & we haven't got that this year (yet ) . Good quality linen creases in a good quality way , I think . Cheap linen isn't nearly as nice . That blue is a lovely color

    • I agree Wendy. It is definitely best to buy the best quality linen you can afford. It looks better and lasts longer.

  • You look great in that blue. I agree. Always buy good linen. It seems to crease in the same creases each time. Always looks smart and classy. Ann

  • That colour is stunning with your hair, I tried to leave a comment on your Instagram, but I seem to have messed up my screen size and can't get down to the box - this is when I wish I had had kids!
I loved seeing the pic of you and Pseu - what fun!

    • Hi Tabitha Yes our day together exploring Covent Garden was fun. Not sure having kids really helps, neither of mine are into social media. Maybe my grandchildren (2 and 5) will be or perhaps all the hype will be history by then.
