Dresses for the festive season

Dresses for the festive season. The festive season is upon us and it is time to start preparing what we are going to wear over the holiday period. Personally, I want to wear some bright colours. I feel that we need to cheer ourselves up during these dark winter months. In the photo above I am wearing a bright blue dress from hopefashionUK combined with my favourite colour pink. The dress is nice and loose so there is plenty of room if you choose to overindulge in Christmas pud.

The day we took these photographs it was cold and windy so I decided to style the dress with my favourite pink roll-neck sweater and a pair of wide black trousers. For a more dressy occasion I would swap the sweater for a statement necklace and a pair of low heel court shoes.

I’m a great believer that accessories really jazz up an outfit. I have kept the colour theme going with my bright pink coat, pink gloves and light pink pearl beret.

You can add more definition to the dress by cinching in the waist with a wide belt.

Wearing my blue cocoon dress in a previous post with my bright pink coat.

What will you be wearing over the festive season? Will you be dressing up or dressing down this year?

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Lovely post thank you Josephine! We always dress up for Christmas normally wearing whatever presents we were given that morning, but I do like to wear something christmassy and pretty.I have a Hobbs green shift dress on stand by with pleated sleeves that works wonders with bright gold jewelry.

  • This is just such a great combination on you! I appreciate your ideas for making layers work in the colder weather. That belt bag is fantastic!
