French wedding style

French wedding style. How do the french women adapt their style  for “posh” church weddings?

I know from past comments that you are fans of my “french wedding series”. Previous ones here and here. There is a magnificent church in the centre of our small village in the South of France. During the season, from about now till the end of September, there are weddings every Saturday, sometimes two.

I love watching the guests as they arrive and depart and do my best to get a few photos to share with you all.

There seems to be a predominance of pinks and soft corals this year with a flash of bright yellow. Many of the fabrics were delicate and floaty.

There are another couple of weddings tomorrow so I will do my best to hide in the bushes and get some pictures.

In the meantime have a great week-end.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Just wondering, are weddings always held in daytime? Perhaps this was early evening? Americans seem to favor the Saturday night wedding.

    • Hi Marguerite Yes they are held in the afternoons in the church. Then the wedding party goes off to a nearby hotel for the reception or to Pampelonne beach to one of the beach restaurants, very romantic. Although I think french weddings are a bit more low key than the english ones.

  • How lovely to see all these weddings and I too, love the yellow dress( not for me though).
Thank you for posting - they are really interesting.

  • Nice to see this! And another question: are most of the receptions, at hotel or restaurant, for a full dinner? It seems that just about every wedding here includes a full, sit down dinner. What happened to the 4PM church wedding followed by a real "reception" ie. cocktails, champagne, small bites and wedding cake? I'm getting very tired of the endless dinner wedding reception!! Any thoughts?

  • French weddings are definitely more low key often a reception in a hotel or a party at one of the beach restaurants. My son got married last year and even when they did a lot themselves flowers etc it Was still expensive I think it puts a lot of pressure on young people.

  • Here in Australia we don't have as many historic churches but surprisingly I think our brides and guests look quite similar to this group!

  • Lovely photos, and nice to see so many different styles reflected. When we were in Paris I noticed that coral, red and pink were the predominant colors worn.

  • Hope that you managed to grab a few more photos to share with us. I wonder if you would be kind enough to write a post about chic outfits for wedding guests for those of us who are over 40 (says me, who will be 68 in September!) I have a wedding in September followed by one in early October, both here in Spain so the weather should be good! In spite of Spanish women tending to be short like me, I usually need to buy petite ranges on-line so links would be helpful!
