Culottes, divided skirts or whatever you choose to call them are another fashion trend I thought that I would test out. Culottes used to be one of my favourite clothing pieces many years ago. They are one of those cameleon items that can be easily transformed from day to evening with the addition of the right accessories.
They can look very smart for work teamed with a tailored blazer and equally at home for the office evening party with a simple top and some sparkly jewellery.
It was a very cold a blustery day when Mr. P took the above photos so I wore a chunky cream sweater in the first shot. The hat is there to stop my hair blowing all over the place. I am also for the first time wearing a pair of black heeled ankle boots. Not a look I normally go for as I find that they tend to be unflattering and shorten my legs. However in this instance I found that they added just the right edge to stop the culottes veering towards the frumpy.
In the second shot I have teamed the culottes with a simple cream top and wide black belt to add emphasis to the waist. The blue long line cardigan is there for warmth as much as for the look, although I think it adds a casual air. It was just too cold to take it off and show the sleeveless cream top on its own.

My cream sweater is by Gerard Darel (I bought it on my recent trip to France) similar but with Vneck or similar with high neck. Black hat from my large collection similar. Black suede ankle boots.

Culottes as above. Sleeveless cream top by Zara. Long navy cardigan also purchased in France. Similar by Eileen Fisher (30%off) also their sheer hemp cardigan (50% off).
PS. For my winserlondon fans there are some great reductions on a selection of their key pieces here including the tunic I featured in my “What to pack for a visit to the British countryside” down from £150 to £99.
This is what culottes used to look like.

You look great in culottes…the perfect model!
They look great on you! I remember that Vogue pattern. I probably used it to sew several pairs in my youth!!
I am skipping the whole culottes revival, but I think you’ve done a great job with them, particularly in the second photo. And I love your belt!
Josephine, I also have a pair! I love the first look! The turtleneck and a stylish hat are a perfect match to your culottes! Beautiful pictures 🙂 hugs x Beata
I like culottes, too. I´ve got two pairs for summer. Having seen your pics I think I need one like yours, too. I´m happy of coming across your blog. I think there should be more blogs by women of mature age. I´m 64 and I started my blog (renisoddsandsods.wordpress.com) this September. Best wishes!
