How to adapt a skirt from casual to formal

I thought that I would write a post today about how to adapt a skirt from casual to formal. I have owned this navy bias cut midi skirt for quite a few years. It was originally from HopeFashionuk. They do still have a similar one available in Fuschia pink. I brought it with me to France so that I could try it out with some of the items that I keep in my wardrobe here.

How to adapt a skirt from casual to formal:

Here I have adapted my skirt from casual to formal. dressed it up with my navy Armani Collezioni jacket. I have had this jacket since the mid-nineties so I suppose that it is now classified as vintage. If you are interested in similar jackets I did find a few on Etsy.

For a very casual look I have teamed my skirt with a classic white shirt worn over a simple white tee. I have left the shirt open and rolled the cuffs up to reinforce the casual vibe. I have added a pair of silver ballet flats. They are the only shoes I keep here in France as I mostly live in trainers. You could equally wear a pair of simple trainers/sneakers.

Above I have knotted the white shirt to give it a different twist.

You can see how I teamed this same skirt with my leather jacket here and with a cream top here.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

    • I will try to go to St.Tropez market again . The prices have gone up a bit so has postage so I will have to cost them up carefully.

  • Beautiful variations on the navy midi skirt, Josephine. You are so right that if you buy good things you can keep wearing and wearing them. I am wondering if you will continue visiting Grimaud through the fall and winter. Loved these pictures, thank you so much for sharing.

  • Timeless skirt. Timeless jacket. Both exquisite and very flattering. Love all the looks. I adore navy.

  • Hello Josephine, I always enjoy reading your blog. I was wondering if you have any favourite lingerie brands that you could recommend? No modelling necessary! Thank you, Maria
