How to make the most of cold winter days and evenings

How to make the most of cold winter days and evenings

As I write this post I am recovering from a nasty bout of flu so the idea of cosy comfy clothes is very appealing. The winter has definitely arrived here in London. The days are dark, cold and gloomy so we need all the help we can get to keep our spirits up here in the Northern hemisphere.

I am stocking up on thermal underwear. A trip to Paris in mid-December to meet Unefemme is in the diary. Paris in mid-December can be extremely cold. I remember on one trip, at that time of year, I had to pop into the nearest Uniqlo to buy a couple of thermal vests (US link) and one of their very useful packable gilets (US link) You can see me wearing it here.

Details of above:

Top row: Grey thermal leggings John Lewis & Partners // Grey thermal vest John Lewis & Partners // Cosy grey melange sweater Boden // Grey thermal long sleeve top John Lewis & Partners.

Middle row: Sleep candle The White Company // Night candle The White Company // Colour block slipper mules Boden.

Bottom row: Faux fur hot water bottle The White Company // Cashmere stripe bedsocks The White Company // Night oil overnight renewal treatment The White Company.

Sorry to hear you have been laid low with flu and hope you are feeling better by now. (If you are not eligible for flu jabs on NHS, did you know that you can get them done privately at chemists ?). And you can stock up on Uniqlo by mail order, like you I think they are so good. They are offering free p&p on orders over £20 at the moment and in the uk this includes free returns, though I don’t know about outside the uk. I looked back at the Paris trip last year and am completely coveting the scarf you wore!

Have a lovely trip to Paris, yes .. take care!

Thanks for your well wishes Jenny. I have had a flu jab and luckily whatever I had did not last more than a couple of days so maybe that helped. I have just ordered another Uniqlo heattech top as I think it will be cold in Paris.j

The scarf I am wearing is from St. Tropez market. We are in the process of setting up a shop connected to the blog so that we can sell similar scarves. They are all one offs but there is always an interesting selection. We are going down there just after Christmas so will see what I can find.

Hi. I’m suffering with a very heavy cough/cold so have cancelled various appointments as I do not want to pass it on. Lemsip is my go to comfort treatment. I have had my flu jab so hopefully this will pass soon. Living in the frozen north of England I love my cosy sweaters and may invest in some warm under garments.
Looking forward to your blog shop as I have picked up some lovely scarves in France when my late OH and I holidayed there.

      Hi Marilyn L
Warm undergarments make all the difference. Yes France is a great source for scarves. Hope to have our shop up and runnning in the New Year.

Hi Josephine, So sorry to hear you had the flu but I’m glad you recovered quickly. I’m fighting the flu right now. Everything hurt including my eyeballs but I think I have turned the corner. I did get the flu shot; here in Canada it’s free. However, the dose only contained vaccines for the flu that could kill you. Apparently, I’m going to live. 🙂

I love your blog. I recently retired and am trying to get away from my black wardrobe. I am inspired by the pretty colours you pick.

      Hi Judy
Glad to hear you like the blog. I think our flu jab here covers most types of flu but not all. I certainly recovered quite quickly which is good because I am very busy at the moment. Perhaps the immune-boosting vitamin powder I take helped.
