How to restyle last season’s blouse

Being sustainable is all about shopping your wardrobe as much as possible. Mixing and matching the items that you already own. So I thought that I would talk about how to restyle last season’s blouse, top or sweater. In fact the top could be one that you have had in your wardrobe for many years.

Details of above:

How to restyle last season’s blouse

The photo above shows how I wore my print pussy bow tie blouse from Winser London (gifted) still available at Harvey Nichols with their rose print midi skirt (now reduced from £159 to £50). See more images of my rose print outfit in last years post.

Here I have restyled last season’s blouse with a pair of dark denim jeans by Levi’s at JohnLewis&Partners and a pair of FitFlop sandals. This years styles.

When the weather here improves and I have a seasonal wardrobe sort out and unpack my summer clothes I intend to see how many different combinations I can make from what I already own.

Let us know how you restyle last years blouse, top or sweater.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I love both ways you’ve styled your blouse, Josephine. You are so creative and look so chic. Blue is such a pretty color on you, too. The chunky statement earrings are an ideal choice for this blouse. They’re solid in color and large enough to not disappear or look too busy with the smaller print. I imagine accessories play an important role in repurposing as well. Your stunning patterned separates could be the perfect centerpiece of a versatile capsule travel wardrobe.

We are in our hot and humid summer season (May through most of October, when even the beach doesn’t give much relief) so for me it will have to be re-wearing my items since it’s difficult to repurpose at this time. We live near the Atlantic Ocean in a sub-tropical historic city that is a major tourist destination. It’s very upscale resort-like, with even cruise ships docking in our harbor. During these months I dress like the tourists and wear simple lightweight floral dresses (or a LBD for evenings) since the key in Charleston is to try to stay as cool as possible. You probably find a similar situation in the south of France in August, but you probably don’t have high humidity there. My accessories are even minimal—a couple lightweight cardigans for when in air conditioning, a straw hat, basic diamond or pearl stud earrings, a straw tote for daytime, a clutch for evenings, and of course sandals. This is the time of year we seek out the cooler weather of our mountain home, hike up shady trails to waterfalls, and dip our toes in cold mountain rivers while reading a good novel, which is funny if you think about it because it’s the same time of year that you escape to the sunny warmth of the south of France. Temperatures here are already climbing to 35 Celsius next week, so we are making preparations to leave for the mountains for a week or so.

Thank you so much for demonstrating how fun it can be to find new ways to wear pieces from our wardrobes! I’m looking forward to trying it out myself as soon as cooler weather arrives in November. I’ll let you know how it goes.
