How to style classic jackets to create versatile outfits.

How to style classic jackets to create versatile outfits. As I edited my wardrobe in readiness for our imminent house move I noticed one thing. I never seem to want to get rid of my classic jackets. Both jackets and coats are items that I invest in. I choose well-cut jackets in good quality fabrics that will last. Classic tailoring never goes out of style. All the jackets featured above have been with me for many years. I style them in different ways in order to create versatile outfits.

A classic jacket can be worn all year round:

As you can see from the images above some of the jackets have been styled with white trousers and others with sweaters and scarves. The oldest jacket is the bright pink one. I bought it from Joseph about fifteen years ago. The grey check one (bottom left) is part of a trouser suit that I have teamed with a feminine pleated skirt.

I have even styled my black jacket (top right) with a quilted sleeveless waistcoat in winter here.

Two of the jackets are from MeandEm. They use very good fabrics and the cut is excellent. A bit pricey but you can always try their sale.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • The Joseph magenta jacket is amazing! I also like the double breasted grey that you are wearing open.
    What collection is that please?

  • I have some expensive blazers but the shoulders are larger with the pads. I guess I have to find a tailor to cut them down for me; otherwise, I would wear them. You are lucky your blazers don't have those shoulder pads!

  • I did have some blazer from the 90s with shoulder pads and when they were removed I had to have the shoulders cut down. It was worth it I continued wearing them for a long time afterwards

  • I love all your looks shown here, Josephine and that magenta jacket is stunning. My problem is that living in Manchester (often cold and usually damp / raining) a tailored jacket isn’t often a practical option. I am so fed up with wearing my sensible Joules parka! It seems it’s hardly been off my back for the last two years and I yearn to feel smart and well turned out again!
