How to travel in style for an Easter break

Easter is just round the corner and many of us will be off for a Spring break. It is a difficult time of year to plan a capsule wardrobe, especially here in the UK, due to the weather fluctuations, one minute there is a freezing wind and the next bright sunshine.

A classic colour palette is always a good start and a trench a good travelling companion in case of a sudden April shower.

Here I have chosen navy and white with a touch of grey and blue. However you could easily create the same recipe with black, brown, camel, beige or any other neutral you might fancy.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Hmm - I like your choices for comfort. What do you put into your case for dining out in the French country towns ? Thanks for your endless fashion ideas.

  • I like the selection in image 2 and could imagine myself making it the backbone of a quick trip. A good trench is hard to find - I wore my last until it was a rag!

  • Hi Swan. I will be doing another capsule week-end away post next week which will include some eviening outfits

  • Lovely choices here, Josephine...you're right about the April showers for Spring in the UK...trench time!
    Happy Easter

  • Aw, your choices look so good unless you have your arm in cast. I'm traveling and will look terrible. I had to purchase some cheap items to fit over my cast! Zoot alors!

  • I bought a very dark navy trench at John Lewis last week, it's a but longer than the Uniqlo one, and was £99; I am thrilled with it. We're off on a cruise on the river Elbe after Easter so these suggestions are perfect, thank you.

  • Your choices are just wonderful and you're going to look lovely! I'm travelling from Canada to London May 12-27 and am planning on following your suggestions. I bought the light weight Burberry travel trench ( a splurge which I just love) and thought a couple of pairs of Eileen Fisher black ankle pants, dark denim jeans would work with shirts, lights sweaters and scarves. I'm also taking a black loafer, a walking shoe and dress flats. Oh yes, and an umbrella! Would you have any other suggestions? Best wishes to you for a lovely Spring break! Denise

    • Hi
Denise A Lightweight roll up umbrella would work well. you can buy good cheap ones in Boots when you get here. save carrying one over with you.

  • Great suggestions, Josephine. I'm currently putting together a capsule wardrobe for Paris, and you know how iffy the weather can be there in April. Light-weight layers are always the way to go.

Love the pieces you have chosen; however, you know me, they would have to be in warm neutrals (brown, navy, taupe, beige, etc.).

    Cheers, M-T

  • I am loving the cotton/linen white T-shirt. Such a simple article of clothing, and yet so hard to get it right! All the stores here have begun to make them in such a lightweight material. Not age appropriate and not my style! Even with camisole underneath, they are just too revealing. But the shipping price for this one,to the U.S., isn't worth it. I will continue to search. But I really love the linen mixed the cotton: so if anyone has suggestions, please do tell!
