How to wear a summer trench

How to wear a summer trench. This short navy trench coat by Winserlondon has been invaluable on my recent travels round the UK. It is very light and packs like a dream, taking very little room in a suitcase.  It does come in a longer version, however I think that the short style is ideal for just popping over trousers or a dress in summer. If it gets chilly you can always wear a lightweight cashmere jumper underneath.

The Peacock Hotel at Rowsley. A grade 11 listed building with stunning gardens and the most delicious food  (they have an excellent chef)

We spent a couple of days with friends in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside last week. Whilst our husbands went fishing we went sightseeing and shopping. We were planning on doing mostly sightseeing the shopping came about by pure chance, at least that is our story.

The weather was gorgeous and we stopped off for a quick cup of coffee in Baslow, a lovely village with magnificent views over the Derbyshire Dales. We decided to take a stroll round the village and the next thing we knew we had crossed the threshold into an aladdin’s cave of treasure. A small boutique full of this seasons collections. Many of the brands they stocked were new to me and I will certainly be checking them out for future use on the blog. It was good to find such a wide range of styles suitable for grown up women at Issiofbaslow.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Oh, if only it was cold enough in Southern California to wear a trenchcoat in the summer. We're in the middle of a terrible drought. Neighbors are removing roses and planting cactus!

  • Lucky you! I grew up in Derbyshire, revisited my old schoolfriend there last year, it is still very beautiful, despite the fact that it rained almost constantly ~ but isn't that what makes everything so green? Did you go to Chatsworth, always worth a visit? Your post on Haddon Hall reminded me of visits with my parents when I was a child too. Australia is sooo far away from all of this.

    • Hi Jules
We were so lucky with the weather it was gorgeously sunny. We visited Chatsworth the last time we were there. I wrote a post and there are some lovely photos I took of the gardens.
