How to wear leggings three ways.

Hello I am back with another post on how to shop your wardrobe and make the most of the clothes that you have. This time I am demonstrating how to wear leggings three ways. I am not sure that I have ever been a great fan of leggings, however I do have a couple of pairs in my wardrobe and they have come in very handy recently. The main reason is that they are very comfortable and easy to wear.

I have been experimenting recently with different ways to wear them. I have discovered that they can look extremely smart if you pair them with dressier items from your wardrobe.

Above I am wearing my black foundation leggings originally bought from Hopefashionuk a couple of years ago. I love Hope’s foundation pieces, they are so easy to wear and wash and pack like a dream. Not that we will be doing any packing for a while.

With the addition of a white tie-neck blouse, a long line sleeveless waistcoat and heels simple leggings can look dressy.

The same leggings teamed with a white tee, grey cotton hoodie and my Fitflop trainers I am ready for my pilates class, currently on my computer via Zoom.

Photos taken on our upstairs patio. We are so lucky to have some outside space.

Now for a completely different look. Here I have added a pistachio green silk top (so old I can’t remember where I bought it or when) a multi-coloured silk/cotton scarf and a toning green bead necklace. Both available at Chicatanyage accessories shop.

Green bead necklace and scarf from Chicatanyage shop. Temporarily closed. If you are interested in the necklace or scarf email me at Chicatanyage(at)iCloud.com and I will let you know when the shop is open again.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I have a number of silk/silky tops that I rarely wear. Keep thinking they should be paired with a "dressier" bottom. Not any more! I'm going to wear them with jeans and leggings. Thanks, Josephine!

  • Sorry, but the number one rule for wearing leggings is that your top must cover your behind!

    • It does not show well in the first photo of the green top however you can just see in the second photo that the top is longer at the back.

  • You look fabulous Josephine-a real inspiration! Thank you for taking the time to continue your posts

  • Hi Josephine
You look fantastic in these leggings I will be tempted by them and you style them beautifully. I have just ordered a few things from Hope and looking forward to them arriving I mentioned you to Nayna when I was speaking to her as you always wear their pieces so well
Keep up the posts as bring in lockdown it is great to have something to look forward to and a new way of putting items in our wardrobes together

    Keep safe

  • Hello Margaret
Thank you for your commentand for mentioning my name to Nayna. I am a fan of Hopefashion they provide very practical and wearable clothes.

  • I really like your look with the long grey vest. So classy and simple. And, BTW, LOVE your bookcases!

  • I realize this post is older, but I’m new here and have been exploring your blog. I feel black leggings are so versatile and they look great on you. My favorite look is the one with the tie blouse and waistcoat. I have an unfortunate ‘pear’ shaped figure, so I wear my black leggings with a-line tunics that skim gracefully over my hips to disguise my least favorite part of my figure. I also like layering dusters or cardigans over the tunics in cooler weather. In the summer I pair them with sandals or flats, and in the winter with tall boots or booties.

  • Also, I forgot to ask how you like your Fitflops. Prior to the pandemic my friends and I went to lunch and shopping every week. One day about six of us were shopping in Charleston and got this brilliant idea to all buy the exact same style of Fitflops and then wear them to a group brunch the following day, presumably to see if our other friends would notice we were all wearing the same shoes (yes, we’ve realized now we’re actually children in adult bodies). We all felt they were super comfy when we tried them on, but when we wore them for a more prolonged period the next day they started getting mixed reviews. Some had to have them stretched over the top of the foot where it was irritating them. I really wanted to love them but ended up giving mine to the charity shop. For me, comfortable shoes are the most difficult item to shop for. My feet have become so picky over the years.
