“Suede back when”. Inspired by the 70s revival suede is back on the fashion agenda. I am not sure it ever left as part of the sumptuous offering from high end brands. The difference is that this season there are many suede looks available from the high street which seem to be selling well, for example the renowned MandS suede skirt as seen on Alexa Chung and now sold out.
Suede is a delicate fabric and needs a lot of TLC to make sure it looks its best. So be prepared for careful maintenance and avoid wearing it in the rain! There are some good faux leather/suede available if you prefer low maintenance.
I do think that a statement suede piece can really lift a wardrobe to another dimension. Here I have chosen a waterfall jacket by Oasis, (since I wrote the post a couple of days ago it seems to have sold out). I tracked one down on eBay or similar here and here. I have teamed it with flare jeans, a floppy hat and bucket bag to stay with the “hippie vibe”.

Beautiful jacket! I just wish suede were easier to clean! Here’s a tip I heard from a friend, who said if you wear a suede top, always wear dress shields because perspiration stains will ruin the garment.
Good idea Rita. Thank you for sharing it with us
Boo hoo – the powder blue Biker jacket modelled by Twiggy on your carousel is sold-out.
Hi Hipsterett
I can’t believe that suede is selling so fast. I checked all the links just before I published. I don’t think MandS is holding as much stock this year they seem to be selling out of certain lines quite quickly.
I love suede bags with fringing on- where can I get one- any suggestions?
Hi Wendy B
I am just preparing a post on “Fringes” featuring bags. I plan to publish next Friday to pop back then.
