Ideas for how to dress for the festive season

Well it is that time of year again when we begin to think about getting out and about a bit more to celebrate the festive season. This year my feeling is that how we choose to dress will be a little more laid back compared to how it has been in the past. We will still be putting on our glad rags and hopefully meeting up with friends and family. We have all got used to dressing with more comfort in mind. This is so my feeling is that this trend will be carried over to our choice of party and evening wear. Above I have offered a few ideas of how to dress for the festive season.

Details of above:

Maxi dress Boden | Earrings Nordstrom | Black sequin jacket MarksandSpencer | Pink silk camisole LilySilk | Pink clutch bag Nordstrom | Green cardigan JohnLewis&Partners | Black/silver shoes Boden | Black velvet trousers MarksandSpencer| lipstick JohnLewis&Partners | Lipstick JohnLewis&Partners | Lipstick JohnLewis&Partners.

I find that velvet is a very adaptable fabric. You can wear it during the day as I demonstrated in my last post here or dress it up with silk, sequins or statement earrings.

What are your ideas of how to dress for the festive season? What will you be wearing? Do you favour trousers or perhaps a skirt/dress? I have offered a few ideas of both in my collage at the top.

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • After reading your last post I regretted giving away my velvet jackets. However I now have dark red velvet trousers, and green velvet trousers so maybe a velvet jacket added would be a bit too much. One of them would have looked great with my black flecked with silver skirt! The Nordstrom trousers in colour Turbulence are the shade of green I have. What colours do you suggest I wear with the trousers, please, Josephine?

    • I cant seem to find the Turbulence green trousers on Nordstrom. I would say if you want to be neutral wear a cream or white top (whichever works for you) If you want to be on trend you could add another vibrant colour either in a cool shade or warm. I usually like my top to be lighter than my bottoms.
