Inbetween seasonal additions to your wardrobe

I think we are all getting a bit bored with our winter clothes, I know I am. Yet it is still cold here in London and Spring has definitely not sprung yet. One of the most useful items in my wardrobe is my tried and tested parka. Mine is at least three years old from J.Crew. See how I styled it in 2017. J.Crew currently offer a very similar style to this one which they are calling a rain jacket. The new version comes in some lovely bright colours if you feel like adding some bright tones to take you into Spring.

I have chosen a very casual look for a stroll along the banks of the river Thames near Hampton Court Palace. My side stripe trousers are a couple of years old from MeandEm. If you are after the athletic wear look, in my opinion, MeandEm has the best selection of sports lux side stripe trousers.

Anatomy of the outfit:

Kharki parka J.Crew (also available at JohnLewis&partners) / Blue crew neck sweater JohnLewis&partners / Scarf St. Tropez market. Cream Heattech polo Uniqlo / Navy/white stripe trousers MeandEm / Blue cashmere gloves JohnLewis&partners / Addidas Stan smiths.

To complete the sporty look I have added my tried and trusted Adidas Stan Smiths Possibly not the best choice for a walk on muddy grass, however a quick wipe down with a damp cloth when I got home and they were as good as new.

Just peeking out is my favourite hanky hen style sweater from Woolovers. This season available in soft mint, bubblegum pink and pale pink.

I know I keep talking about layers, however I really think it is the way to go as we slowly transition into a new season. You never know from one day to the next what temperature you are going to get.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Hello Josephine,
I love your blog. Today I really like your color choices. They are some of my favorites. Will Spring ever come?

  • Interesting that the bright cerise jacket has gone in the smaller sizes. That would have been my pick too. Brightens a dull day no end. :-)

  • Great outfit & lovely flicky hair style . I try to encourage my hair to flick like this but it won’t always cooperate - Or just one side does !

    • Thanks Wendy. The hair is a tricky one. I usually only get the flicks perfect on the first day of washing. Then I find a I have to damped the sides of my hair and give them a quick blast with the dryer and then add a touch of holding gel.

  • I just love your side stripe trousers. I would have never thought of such a combination but it looks so good on you!
