When I am staying in France I like to read the latest editions of the french women’s magazines such as Femme Majescule. I have mentioned this magazine in several previous posts. It is one of my favourites because it contains some inspiring articles for women of our generation. I also find that their fashion pages feature looks that can be adapted to our everyday lives. Unlike some or our UK fashion publications that seem to show clothes that are either very expensive or not at all practical/wearable or both.

In the July/August edition stripes seemed to dominate ……

I love this stripe shirtdress. So simple and yet so chic. Plus it has sensible sleeves.

I FOUND SOME SIMILAR:

Black and white always an elegant combination. I also like the addition of a touch of red and leopard print. I would never have thought of combining the two yet somehow it seems to work.

STRIPE SKIRTS:

Just a touch of stripes on the sleeve. They pick up the blue of the trousers. If you look closely you will see that the wedge sandals also have a stripe. Even the beach bag is joining in the stripe bonanza.

This is how I integrated stripes into my wardrobe this year. Stripe maxi dress and Stripe shirt.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • As usual I am blown away by the simplicity of French chic. The French striped dress is absolutely gorgeous and I don't think the others shown can hold a candle to it. Feel like throwing everything in my wardrobe out and following the French code! Though know I won't really !

  • I love your comment about 'sensible sleeves'! Bell
Sleeves and ruffles are too ridiculous on me. Additionally, how does one get a sweater or jacket over them??

    • I normally wear "sensible sleeves" however I do have a couple of tops with small bell sleeves and I find they look good just peeking out of my sweater or jacket sleeves.

  • Love all these outfits you have illustrated for wearing stripes in interesting ways. All so chic and simple. I shall have to store these away for future reference. Thank you.

  • I love all of these pieces. There's not a thing "too much" in any of these clothes. Just balance. Style. Comfort. Wearability. Flattering. Ageless. Parfait!

  • I have never thought of wearing a button through maxi dress over trousers but I am going to try it when I find a suitable dress. Thanks for the idea.

    • Hi Kathleen I often wear this look as I like to cover my legs if possible (if saves all the faff with camouflage or self tan.

  • I am always a bit jealous if I see such nice styling, knowing I cannot wear sleeveless anymore. And showing skin in the right places can make such a difference to an outfit.

  • I especially like the first two looks. The long, vertically striped skirt looks so comfortable, yet elegant, and the shirtdress is adorable!
