Flew back to rather grey dismal London skies yesterday and it is predicted to get a lot colder by the week-end. would love to buy this warm and cosy looking sweater from Isabella Oliver but not sure that my budget will run to the expense at the moment even though it is reduced in the sale.

I have decided to channel what funds I have left after Christmas in another direction. I am a great believer in keeping active both physically and mentally. As the years add up I feel it is very important to keep “the little grey cells” active and that means continuing to grow, stretch and challenge yourself to learn new things, have new experiences and meet new people of all ages. It helps keep your outlook on life young and fresh.
To this end I have decided to go back to “adult college”. Luckily in the UK we have some very good adult learning institutions As one of my intentions for this year is to improve the photos I take for my blog my first class in photography starts tomorrow afternoon.
Which lens to use? I never know |
I never did get to grips with depth of field and depth of focus on the 1st course I took. |
At least I will attempt to look smart and student like!
I would love to know if you have embarked on any new learning adventures and if you consider it important to keep challenging your brain.
Thank you for visiting. I really love to hear from you and appreciate the time you take to leave comments.

I'm so excited for you! Both of those subjects are at the top of my list should I ever be able to schedule time for classes again. Have fun!
Good luck with your course, I am sure you will enjoy it! I also have my eye on another IO jumper!
Congrats, I hope it goes well for you! I have been considering doing a French class as well, but I'm a little intimidated I think.
You are a woman after my own heart. I dabble in both French and photography to keep the little grey cells going!
Bon weekend
Good for you! I love learning new things. Once I get settled this year I'd like to find another good yoga teacher, join a choir and maybe get some more singing lessons.
Things on my 'would like to do at some point' list are belly dance, flamenco dance and lots of drawing and painting.
Cheers,
Eleanorjane.
PS- I'd buy the jumper in a brighter colour 'cos I like colour in grey winters, but that's just me...
I think using the brain is the only thing that really makes sense of life apart from having a family. It also give reason for times of fun and relaxation.
I was unable to go to university at the age of 18 for many reasons. But after 10 years working as a secretary I finally went at the age of 28 and started a degree a week after getting married. During that degree I had my first baby, then went on to have another child before starting a Masters degree. Now finally at the age of 50 I have completed and published a PHD, at the same time as raising a family and maintaining my marriage. It's been hard work and there have been times when I've wanted to run from it but looking back I wouldn't have had it any other way as I really believe I would have gone mad without the mental stimulation of study.
So I would urge you to do your French and photography - it keeps you buoyant in life, expands your network of contacts and stimulates a questioning mind. Having said all that, it also provides an excuse to dress up for classes!
I agree with you Eleanorjane I had a fabulous thick knit winter jumper in a bright red and I felt so much more cheerful when I wore it.
Good for you Fenicia I know how hard it can be to bring up children and work and study at the same time.
Just found your lovely blog from Spain (I'm an expat also). Yes, I've read on numerous occasions that people who learn new activities as they get older actually stave off Alzhiemers; especially learning a new language :-)
I'm just starting a new life in Italy, so improving my Italian is my top priority. I would also like to study art history again. It' s not just about keeping our brain active for ourselves, we remain alive and open to new ideas, and interesting to other people. Good luck with your classes.
