Long sleeve tops – Buy now wear later

I find this a difficult time of year clothes wise. The weather is still cold, at least here in London.

I have plenty of warm sweaters including some new ones which I bought in the recent sales. I also treated my self to a new coat in my favourite colour. Yes, you guessed it is pink. To be revealed soon.

The one item that I feel is worth buying now is the long sleeve tee shirt or layering top. When I am not wearing my thermals (see my choices here) I often layer a long sleeve tee or similar top under my woollies. Then when the weather finally gets warmer I can wear it with a lighter jacket or on its own.

Neutral coloured tees are good basics to add to your wardrobe or if you want to try out a few of the new season’s colours this is a good way to experiment without spending a fortune.

As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Josephine. I would love to pick your brains for a minute. I really appreciate your sense of colour and style. I am struggling with colour at the moment as I have had my colours done and I am an autumn. The trouble is that while I love navy khaki and beige I do not like sludgy brown colours. Have you any tips for looking good but not completely following the autumn colours.? I admire so much how you have coordinated your wardrobe and there is me in a bit of a mess
I have bought a lot of me and em on your recommendation and will continue to do so

Thanks for all you do you look fantastic
    Margo

    • Hi Margo

Thank you for your comment. I can quite see why you might not like the sludgy browns however there are many other more vibrant colours in your palette. Autumn colouring is deep warm muted. You might like to look at this pallet from Colour me Beautiful Autumn season pallet

Did your colour consultant advise you on your best colours from your pallet? I feel these days we don’t need to be so rigid with our colours but go with what we love and maybe those colours where we get compliments from friends and family especially along the lines of “you look well today”.

It is difficult to advise without knowing you because colours can also be linked to personality.

    • Hi Margo -

You didn't ask me...but, I'm an autumn also :), redhead, hazel eyes, freckles, fair skin...anyway, I love turquoise, forest greens, army green, deep purples, and some golds. I usually only use brown as like a base color. Sorry to bud in on your conversation :)

      • Hi Kara
Thank you for joining the conversation. You offered some very useful advice for readers with warm colouring. I admit that as I look better in the cooler tones I tend to be biased and feature colours that I am drawn to myself. I will try to offer a more balanced colour pallet going forward.

  • Love your suggestions, Josephine. I have a similar pink v necked jumper which came from Winser London and I wore it so often I bought it in baby blue as well!

    • Hi Judy
I love the WinserLondon knits the was and wear so well. I am sure I will be tempted again this season

  • Ah, those meandem tops are fab-just snapped up a black and a cream one in the sale! Can never have too many!

    • Hi Sue
No, I don't think you can have too many. I have lost count of how many layering tops I have from MeandEm. They wear and wash very useful and can be worn all year round.

  • Loved your post....agree, you cannot have too many long sleeve tees. I love wearing them all year long. Recently retired and find they are great for layering and dressing up to go out or look nice staying at home. I seem to pick up one everytime I shop at Talbots. Thinking one year ago today my wonderful husband and I were in London to celebrate our anniversary. Yes, it was cold...but WONDERFUL!

  • I wear long sleeve, and short sleeve, cotton tees all year long. I always feel I need/must branch out and try something else! But they are so comfortable; most of mine are black in all varieties from many retailers. They go on and on for years!

  • I’m also a convert to long sleeved T’s. They are just so comfortable. I get mine from Uniqlo. All are either black or white, but I must be more adventurous and try other colours I wouldn’t normally think of wearing, as this is a great way to experiment with colour as you suggest.
