Monochrome look for Spring

Monochrome never goes out of style and in my opinion always looks chic.

Black is not the most obvious colour for Spring. I continue to love this years array of bright hues, especially the cool pinks and blues. I might even try a soft yellow. Perhaps these new “brights” are not to your taste.

What to do when you have a wardrobe full of your favourite dark neutrals.  You could always go monochrome.

Black is eternal and in my opinion never truly disappears from our wardrobes. If black does not suit you try substituting navy, brown or grey for a “monochrome look”.

ABOVE I AM WEARING:

Black leather coat Mango // Cream lace black blouse Finery (UK) Black ponte trousers with leather side panels bought in France (similar).

I know I know my hair is a bit short. I let my newfound hairdresser in St. Tropez get a bit too creative. I think I prefer it with a little more length. The good thing about hair is that it grows, mine particularly fast. It is now a few centimetres longer and more to my liking. I might go back to this shorter style for the summer months.

The cream shirt I am wearing under my black leather coat is from FineryUK. I love the lacey swing back. My string of pearls and two pearl earrings are both from one of my favourite jewellery brands Claudia Bradby.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I think I like your messy bob best but , with your thick hair you can wear most styles well . My hairdresser laughed when I asked if a messy bob would suit me . She said it would be a full time job for me with my fine hair & would just flop . Ah well , at least she's honest .

  • Love the lighter bangs, lovely haircut. The white blouse is beautiful, so different. This Spring I might even get out of my T-shirts !

  • Thank you for all your feedback on my new haircut. Not sure my husband agrees. What is it with men they always seem to like longer hair!

    • You are an independent woman with a great fashion and style blog .... I think your new haircut is great and very contemporary . I think it could go even shorter ...hiusbands are funny and sometimes just don't get it ...!
