Style inspiration

A simple monochrome outfit

I have been playing around with colour recently.  So for this post I thought I would cleanse my palate with crisp black and cream.

I recently bought this coat from M&S . Unfortunately now sold out. Similar below. Trousers are my favourite cotton ones by Uniqlo. I have had the necklace for many years. I found some interesting ones at Nordstrom and John Lewis.

In the photo above I have tucked the cream blouse in for an alternative look. I quite like it.A new wider trouser shape is gaining popularity. I will be writing about it soon. Tops are being tucked in to balance their wider shape.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I love the look of the uniqlo trousers but am a bit confused by the size guide, I am a UK 14 with a 31" waist so would I need a size L or XL and at 5ft 8ins tall would they be long enough?

I think your blog is inspirational.

    Kind regards
    Lynda

    • Hi Lynda
I am a size 12 and I bought a Medium in the Uniqlo trousers so I shouldn't think you will need a XL. Sometimes if I am in doubt I order both sizes (return postage is not that expensive) then I can compare. With regard to the length I am 5ft 71/2ins and I let down the hem, which is 1inch (the lazy way you could put a false hem if you wanted) so that the hem was just on my ankles. It depends if you have length in the legs and where you like to wear your trousers.

  • I just discovered your blog as I am in the USA. I love reading it but I'm disappointed that some of the items are so expensive vs. what you have purchased in the UK...I may do some adventure purchasing esp. through some of your sources. By the way, my hair is the same color as yours and I'm going to ask my hairdresser to cut it like yours!

    • Hi Margie
Welcome to my blog. I try and offer a range of prices. Recently I have used quite a few pieces from Uniqlo (available in UK and US). I seem to have a different perspective as when I view pieces in Nordstrom especially Eileen Fischer they are much cheaper than in the UK.

  • Great look and very modern! Monochrome makes you look instantly classy and stylish, you could really go out dressed like that! How confortable do you find your Uniqlo cotton trousers? I have never tried any before as I tend to stick their ultra stretch models. Julie xx

    • Hi Julie
I find the Uniqlo trousers very comfortable. Depending on how tall you are, your leg length and where you like to wear your trousers I found them a bit short for me so as I said above I let the hem down. I like to wear my trousers quite low on my ankles.

  • Love the pocket accent. iIs it leather or zipper? Can't really tell in the photo. Very sophisticated.

  • Hi Sue
It is a "leather look" detail. Not real leather but I think it adds a nice touch.
