My film and series recommendations for the month of March.

Military Wives on Amazon Prime. Inspired by real events. Military wives is the heartfelt story of friendship, love and support on the home front.

The Hundred foot journey on Amazon Prime.

The Kadam family leaves India for France where they open a restaurant directly across the road from Madame Mallory’s Michelin-stared eatery. The film features one of my favourite actresses Helen Mirren. I watched this some time ago and really loved it. Great for foodies!

The book shop – on Amazon Prime

Florence Green, a free-spirited widow, puts grief behind her and risks everything to open a bookshop — the first such shop in the sleepy seaside town of Hardborough, England. But this mini social revolution soon brings her fierce enemies. A light-hearted film depicting rural England.

News of the World on Netflix.

Five years after the end of the Civil War, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Tom Hanks), a veteran of three wars, now moves from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller, sharing the news of presidents and queens, glorious feuds, devastating catastrophes, and gripping adventures from the far reaches of the globe. On the plains of Texas, he crosses paths with Johanna (Helena Zengel), a 10-year-old taken in by the Kiowa people six years earlier and raised as one of their own. The two have many adventures together. Compelling watching once you get into the story.

A Suitable boy BBC iplayer.

A really engaging series. I learnt a lot about the Indian culture and was very sad when I came to the end.

Thank you for your recommendations, I’ve seen Military Wives and News of the world. Loved them both. I’ll watch the 100ft journey as Ibtoo love Helen Mirrin. I’ll also have a look at the the series you recommended. . That’s March Sorted then!!

May I add "Anne with an E" to your list, please? A lovely version of the "Anne of Green Gables" series. On Netflix.

Thank you for these suggestions. We have been watching a harrowing series called “Your Honour”. Although extremely well-done, we need something a little lighter. Real life is harrowing enough at the moment!

I would recommend Little Fires Everywhere, starring Reece Witherspoon and a stunning group of female lead characters. There are plenty of blokes but they’re not centre stage. Tense drama and great characterisation. I think it’s on Amazon Prime. I would also highly recommend Sex Education for those who don’t mind things getting a little spicy. Gillian Anderson is magnificent as a sex therapist mother of a teenage son.
If you speak french or don’t mind subtitles we’ve just finished Season 8 of the wonderful Engrenages (Spiral in English) it’s a gritty crime drama set in Paris. I pretend I’m watching it to improve my french but really I’m just imagining I’m in ore Covid Paris.

I watched "The Hundred Foot Journey" and loved it....I enjoy light films, nothing too serious for me. I want to be able to sleep without bad dreams! Another topic....Always liked Yardley talc...used to be able to purchase it in my neighborhood here in the US but haven't been able to find talcum powder in years! The only way I can find it is online and not thrilled to have to pay shipping! Will have to do more searching. Thanks for the reminder, Josephine!
