My philosophy on ageing and the benefits of FlexiQule™

My philosophy on ageing

I have never really understood the labels “anti-age” or “pro-age”. Our western societies take on age seems to be obsessed with numbers. Yes, the years go by and that is inevitable. It is something that I accept. I am older now than I was ten years ago. Our bodies change, acceptance is the best course of action in my book.

Taking care of ourselves

Now that does not mean that we should become complacent. In fact quite the reverse. We almost certainly need to invest more time and effort in taking care of ourselves, both mentally and physically. One of the areas that can begin to cause problems as we get older is our joints; especially if we have had any kind of injury. I had a very bad ski accident in my early 40s and ever since then my right hip and knee have been slightly weaker than my left.

My Story

A few years ago I began to experience pain and stiffness in both knees and went through the usual investigations of MRI scans etc. This revealed that I had osteoarthritis in both knees. I was offered cortisone injections, which I declined. A course of physiotherapy helped a little. Exercises in my pilates class make sure that my posture is as good as it can be so as not to put extra pressure on my joints.

A strict alkaline diet and sticking to an exercise regime has helped. Despite this, I was still experiencing the occasional pain and stiffness in my knees.

As my regular readers will be aware I very rarely accept product reviews; but when AlchemLifeuk™ contacted me and asked if I would like to test their new herbal food supplement FlexiQule™. I was definitely willing to give it a go. This has turned out to be a wise decision. I have been taking the supplements for the past two weeks and have definitely noticed an improvement in the suppleness of my joints.

The steps outside our apartment in France, that lead to the village of Grimaud, are very steep and narrow. I can now navigate these steps with relative ease and no longer need to resort to taking the lift, which is often referred to affectionately as “the old people’s lift”.

Leading an active and healthy life

We all want to live an active and healthy life as we get older. Joint pain and stiffness can be a barrier to this. AlchemLife™ has developed FlexiQule™ Herbal Supplements, which contain 100% natural botanic active ingredients with a unique combination of Boswellia and ginger extracts. Both of these extracts have been used for over a thousand years in herbal medicine. I know that ginger is excellent in reducing inflammation as it was prescribed as part of my Gastritis diet.

I like to do as much research as possible before I write about a product so was interested to read that this is no “Johnny-come-lately” company but has a long history of researching and offering natural medicine and food supplements.

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Hi Josephine
Another very interesting blog. Thank you for sharing this information with us. I will definitely give
FlexiQule a trial. I have osteoporosis and a back problem and have been advised to have an alkaline diet.
I would love to know how easy this is for you as I gave up as I found it too difficult.
Just bought the lovely scarf in your last blog, it seems to go with most things and gives a fashionable
    touch.

    • Hi Susan
I have stuck very rigidly to my alkaline diet for nearly a year. I am now starting to introduce some citrus fruits and even a very small glass of wine occasionally and so far no symptoms. It has been so worth it the alternative was to take antacid medication which did not agree with me and should not be used long term. I also make my own Kafir (you can buy it) which is great for increasing the good bacteria in the gut. In January my niece, who is a qualified nutritionist, will be writing a regular post on my blog sharing her tips on how to eat healthily together with her delicious recipes. I also am working on a plan re: scarves so hope you will stick around. I also work out on a rebounder, which is low impact and apparently good if you have osteoporosis you check it out but I would get the ok from your medical adviser first.

      • I slways look forward to ur email...I also have osteoporosis and am having lots of pain...thank you as always for your column. GOD BLESS...until next time

    • It's good to hear your diet is working. Like you I do not want to take antacids. I look forward to
reading your tips on nutrician and recepies. I love your blogs, you have given me confidence
to wear clothes I otherwise would not have tried. Thank you.

  • Hi Josephine
I have the same philosophy on aging as you: not to accept it is outright stupid. However, like you I consider it very important to look after my health, my looks (I love LFF that's how I found your blog) and my brain which in my mind is not a contradiction but a sine qua non.
I shall look into Flexiqule for my husband. So thank you for another valuable tip.

    • Hi Sally

The answer to your first question is a bit complex. It is basically no acid foods such as citrus fruits, oranges etc plus tomatoes and wine. You would probably need to ask a nutritionist or a dietician if you wanted the full list. I will be getting a nutritionist to write posts on my blog from next January so I will try and include a post on this subject.

With regard to the availability of Flexiqule there seems to be an outlet in NY or you can probably order online. If you click on the AlchemLife link in the paragraph “Leading an active and healthy life etc” it should take you to their website. It keeps telling me to go to the UK site but if you click on the “stay on global site” then scroll down it should have a map with green flags.

  • I would be pleased to read about your alkaline diet. I dont want to take the antacids long term that I've been prescribed.

  • Thank you so much for this blog I have been having lots of trouble with my knees and hips, and have just come back from a few days away where the resort was on a hill and everywhere involved steps, stairs and slopes and I found it difficult, I shall ask my doc. if these will be ok for me as I have to have Thyroid medication and shall then try them.

  • I look forward to your niece's input and to find out how you make your own Kefir. Is there a website your recommend?

    • Hi Brenda
Making Kafir is really easy once you get the knack. I think you can get a starter kit with the culture on the internet. I will be doing some research on this in the new year.

  • Hello from the US! Do you know if they'll ship here or if there's a comparable product available for us? Enjoy your posts so much! Thanks!
