My trip to Paris

I have just returned from spending two wonderful days in Paris with Susan of Une Femme. We spent our time wandering round the Jardin du Luxembourg , window shopping and absorbing the atmosphere of Paris in the Autumn. We spent many a pleasant hour sitting in cafes watcing chic parisian women walk by.

I took the early TGV up from Les Arcs to the Gare de Lyon and met up with Susan for a quick salad lunch in the 16th arrondisement.  In the afternoon we visited the Dior exhibition.

I had planned my capsule wardrobe well. I wore most of the pieces I had packed at least once and sometimes twice. I wore my J.Crew parka every day as the temperatures were much lower than in the South and on the second day it rained. Layers were essential. The photo above was taken in the Jardin des Tuileries. I am wearing my MeandEm frill collar shirt (similar) under my cream sweater.

Susan and I spent many hours each day exploring Paris. My Paul Green brogues (similar) were very comfortable and supported my feet well..

The glorious Jardin du Luxembourg in the Autumn

As you can see I was well wrapped up against the cold in my parka. I am wearing it over my Finery polka dot shirt, velvet trousers (similar UK US) and metallic ankle boots (similar UK US). I have my warm burgundy scarf wrapped round my neck for extra warmth. I buy my scarves in St.Tropez market. Nordstrom and John Lewis both have a good selection.

Susan and I having our morning coffee at Les Deux Magots in Saint-Germain-des-Pres. Watching the world go by. I did manage to get a few street style photos which I will be sharing with you in a future post.

The highlight of my trip was the Dior exhibition at Les Arts Decoratifs. It was stunning. If you are visiting Paris I would hightly recommend a visit. The queues are long so I would advise booking in advance.

For further details of the outfits I am wearing check out my packing for Paris post.

Photos in the parks taken by Susan. The one in the cafe was taken by the waiter.

More news and views from Paris next Monday. Join me then.

PS. I am happy to announce that the winner of the WoolOver’s giveaway is MandaO. Congratulations Manda.

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Josephine,

You are sooo cool! I love reading your posts and I also read Susan's. I do find your selections to be more monetarily friendly, though. Love your style!

  • Lovely photos, Josephine. I agree with Margie that your choices are are much more budget-friendly than Susan's. Susan's selections are far too expensive.

  • HOW FUN TO MEET UP WITH ANOTHER BLOGGER!I met SUSAN a few years ago at TISH JETT's book signing!ANOTHER AMERICAN who is LOSE IN FRANCE!
She does get around OUR SUSAN..............I think I can count 4 or 5 times she has been in PARIS the last THREE YEARS?
Is that correct........SUSAN???Her emails NEVER come to my INBOX so I seldom comment there but I will Jump over TODAY!

  • You look like you are having a wonderful time! Paris never disappoints. I saw the Dior exhibit last month and loved the dresses and the accompanying films. Were you able to see the woman assembling the Dior bag? Quite interesting!

    • Hi Sandra
Yes, the Dior exhibition was great. Did not see the woman assembling the bag but did listen to two women talking about the perfumes and how the delicate beading was created.

  • Love the picture of you both together: such happy faces. Meeting friends in Paris is one of life's pleasures!!!

  • Josephine -- you and Susan were sitting at my husband's favorite Parisian outdoor table. We love that neighborhood and usually stay nearby. Susan posted a Parisian soundscape on her blog a few days ago that made me think you were at Deux Magots. The church bells sounded like Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the intersection shot on her blog pretty much gave it away. Yes, those kinds of cafes are tourist highlights, but who cares! It's like going to Cafe du Monde in New Orleans -- you love it every time, and your friends who live there are happy to come along. :)

  • In reply to your comments regarding the cost of some of the clothes I wear and recommend. I do feature some investment pieces such as my new leather jacket which was quite pricey and I did have to save up to buy it but it should last for many years. I try to feature items that cover a variety of price points from the budget to the more expensive.

    • Thank you, Josephine, for being considerate to those of us who can't afford to spend a huge amount on clothes. I think it's more in keeping with the times, too. I also like that you're interested in sustainable, fair-trade clothing brands like People Tree. Keep in up the good work!

      • Hi Anne
Yes, I hope to use People Tree again. I do think it is important to be mindful of the environment. I think I might revive my "Shop your closet series". It is something I continually do before I make a purchase. Just had a wardrobe clearout here in France and am off to the local "social security office" with some of the clothes that no longer work for me.
