“In this life so full of care there is no time to stand and stare” (William Henry Davies). It was a wonderful treat to take a few days off and spend time in the beautiful Welsh countryside surrounded by lush green fields, beautiful Spring blooms, and not forgetting the sheep and lambs dotted over the hills.
My capsule wardrobe stood up well to the task. At the last minute I swapped my light blue raincoat for my more robust black mac with a hood as the on the morning we left London it was raining buckets! In hindsight, this was not necessary because as soon as we arrived in Wales the sun came out and shone for the next two days. I wore my Hopefashion Navy cotton stretch trousers every day. My mid-wellington boots came in useful for country walks. My pink scarf co-ordinated perfectly with the vibrant tulips.
Here I am wearing my polka dot top underneath my long line navy cardigan (similar). The White company also have an excellent collection of longline cardigans.
You can check out my full capsule wardrobe in my previous post here. I wore my navy print midi dress with my silver flats for the first evening out plus my cashmere poncho over the top when it became chilly. I had just bought my blue fedora hat in a cafe in Hay-on-Wye. I am addicted to hats I just can’t resist them.
We ate at The Walnut tree Inn, just outside Abergavenny. If you are ever in that area I would highly recommend it. The food is an eclectic mix paired with sound cooking techniques; rather than a particular country’s cuisine. A unifying feature is the core of excellent ingredients. For the second evening, I teamed my Hopefashion foundation scoop neck top and leggings with my pink sweater.
It must have taken hours to carve this seat out of a tree stump.
Rhododendrons in all their glory!

It’s actually WH Davies, not Wordsworth.
Thanks Joby I have corrected it.
Thank you Joby I have corrected it.
Sorry to be picky but that line of poetry is "Leisure" by William Henry Davies. Not Wordsworth. I love the latter and find Mr Davies a bit dah di dah di dah, dah di dah di dah. Although Wordsworth's own 'Daffodils' is like that too - his most famous, but I think, worst poem.
Hi Kate
You are quite right. I have used the quote before and must have had a lapse in concentration. Thank you for pointing it out.
I love your posts! They are a vicarious mini-vacation for me!
This is such a nice outfit! I really like the colors together. The cardigan is just perfect on you.
Currently packing for 3 months in a tiny caravan traveling in Australia to Cape York. So remote we have to leave the van and take only the 4 wheel drive for 3 weeks. However, I still like to feel comfortable and look my best while also going from winter to "hot all year". A challenge I feel I can rise to with skinny jeans or shorts, a selection of black bamboo underwear, t shirts and skivvies and coloured sleeveless vests of various fabrics warm and cool. Add a coat, crocs to shower in, walking sandals and boots and I am away. Like wearing a comfy uniform.
Hi Lynne
Sounds as though you are planning your packing very well.
The most beautiful hydrangeas I ever saw were in Wales. It's not a country that leaps to mind as a garden spot, but spring there is breathtaking.
You couldn’t have picked a better weekend to come to Monmouthshire, the weather was wonderful, and the colours you chose were perfect for the season!
It looks so lovely there! The pink scarf is perfect for a cool Spring day.
