Navy plus cream/winning style combination

Navy plus cream a winning style combination and one of my favourite colour mixes for summer.

I am a fan of the minimalist look of black and white as you can see from by recent posts here and here. However cream plus navy is a softer option. Cream is kinder to our more mature skin tones. Unless you have strong colouring navy can be more forgiving than black.

I am wearing my Mango embossed jacket/coat (a few years old) similar shape in floral (now reduced to £19.99 in the sale). I also found a similar style by Helene Berman. I have teamed it with my MeandEm cream linen crop trousers and cream silk tunic (last year) similar. White trainers Keds, navy clutch bag John Lewis and oversize fake pearl necklace. Similar at Etsy

I love a statement coat or jacket. I find that it can really lift an outfit from ordinary to stunning. I tend to allocate the largest part of my budget to a good quality coat in the winter. In the summer I find you can find interesting and unusual budget priced statement coats on the high street.

One of my style tricks is to keep my top and bottom the same colour. I find that it gives height and by creating a continuous line has a slimming effect. This works particularly well if you are petite. I am lucky in that I am reasonably tall so can also wear contrasting colour combinations.

What are your favourite colour combinations for summer?

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Yep...navy with cream or white(in our Fl sunshine) is a way to always look elegant. Watch for our July 4th holiday celebration post...you know how we love red, white and navy!

    • Hi Susan
Yes I love the jacket. It was a sale purchase and I nearly did not keep it but glad I did. I think you have something similar.

  • Very stylish look Josephine, cream is so much softer for people like me with grey hair.

    • Yes La Contessa you are right I do need one of Catherine's wonderful cashmere wraps.

  • Fuschia and white, navy and white, turquoise and white are my faves. I wear black all winter, so i rarely wear black in the summer. Cream doesn't suit me, but true white works.

BTW, I have a pait of cropped white pants similar to the ones you're wearing, and I love them. Being tallish is what makes this length work. This is a better choice for me than cropped pants, shorts, and even skirts. It's also a length that transitions well from day to evening.

  • Hi Josephine
I've only recently found your inspiring site and think you are a breath of fresh air to us ladies in our prime & loving it.
BTW, I think you look fantastic!
