I bought this green parka last year from J.Crew. Unfortunately, they do not seem to be offering a similar style this season. See how I wore it last year. I found a good selection of parkas at both Nordstrom and John Lewis. I am wearing several layers as it was a sunny but chilly early morning near Richmond Park.

The navy boiled wool sleeveless jacket that you can just see under my parka is by Hopefashion. How I styled it last year. My grey roll neck is from Uniqlo (Uk). My new over the knee boots are from MarksandSpencer (US link)  I will be discussing them at greater length later.

My red hat is a few years old from Whistles. Similar at Etsy

My chunky red necklace is from Jaeger a few years ago. Similar at Etsy

A detail shot of my new MarksandSpencer (US link) over the knee boots. I have not worn over the knee boots for many years. Two reasons. The first I thought that I was “too old” and that they were a style more suited to the young. Secondly, I have small feet and wide calves. Never an easy combination when you are buying knee boots. Then I thought I should practice what I preach and be bolder. A friend alerted me to the ones above so I thought I would try them. I was agreeably surprised. They are comfortable, fit well which is a miracle for me.

 SELECTION OF PRACTICAL PARKAS:

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Thanks for being practical . My lifestyle is more parka than posh frock & it's nice to see a selection . A make I like is Aigle & they are properly waterproof too . French I think ?

    • Hi Wendy
Thank you for letting me know about Aigle. I had a look and they are very nice.

  • Love this entire look! I, too, would have thought that over-the-knee boots would be too young a look--but they are not! With dark slacks/leggings, the look is very becoming, and suitable for any age. Thanks for your blog. I always enjoy it!

    • Hi Jane
Thank you for the compliment. I too was surprised that I liked the long boots. That is why I say it is always worth trying something. You never know. Glad you like the blog.
