Summer holidays

Preparing for your summer holiday

I can’t believe that it is that time of year again. When we might be thinking of preparing for our summer holidays. I had a good wardrobe sort out last week-end and discovered that my swimwear was in a very sorry state. It is amazing how chlorine and salt water seems to somehow destroy the fabric over time. The elastic fibres deteriorate causing the material to go saggy. Not a good look.

Details of above:

Print scarf/beach wrap Boden || cream straw fedora MarksandSpencer || Black swimsuit MarksandSpencer || Longline beach shirt MarksandSpencer || Stripe beach bag Anthropologie || Black water resistant slides FitFlop || Sun cream JohnLewis&Partners.

We are planning a trip down to Grimaud at the beginning of June so I needed to replace my two swimsuits. I do find that MarksandSpencer (US link) do a very good range at reasonable prices.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I swim in a local pool most mornings and was always checking my swimsuit for sagging . Then I discovered Speedo 'eco endurance' suits from their website . Their trademarked fabric is polyester rather than nylon and they appear to last for years without sagging ! In order to make sure that there is always a dry one , even in winter , I now have 4 . All bought from the sale section of their website .

  • nothing ruins a day at the beach or pool as much as looking down at your swimsuit and realizing it's seen much better days......I try to be vigilant about rinsing my suits in fresh water after being out all day, but sometimes am just too lazy :~). I have a long torso, and find that Lands End has a great selection of one piece suits (my preference) and tankinis in long/tall sizes. They often have fantastic sales, as well.
