Preview of Autumn 23 styles arriving in the shops.

Preview of Autumn 23 styles arriving in the shops. Just before we came to France went to Kingston to select curtain material for our new apartment. I spent some time at JohnLewis & Partners choosing fabric samples. Whilst I was in Kingston I took the opportunity to look around the fashion departments to check out the styles and colours for the new season. Both on a personal basis to fill in some gaps in my wardrobe and to write this post. I am especially looking at jackets as since I have lost weight many of my existing ones are now too large for me. They are in very good condition so I should be able to sell them through Vinted when I return to the UK.

The shorter lady-like jackets seem to be everywhere this season. They are ideal if you are petite and if you are taller they look good paired with wide-leg trousers. That is how I am going to wear mine. I think that they got the label correct. I love this Timeless jacket by Whistles.

Waistcoats are another of this season’s trends. I have always been a fan of waistcoats. They are so versatile and ideal for early autumn as they can be worn on their own over a shirt or sweater, depending on the temperature, then later teamed with a classic jacket or under a coat as an extra layer. The one I photographed above is from Mango.

Whistles had a good collection with a variety of warm and cool colours. I loved the grey cashmere polo neck and want one of those shoulder bags. They come in a wide variety of colours.

The Eileen Fisher stand had a collection of dark neutrals with a dash of bright red.

Following my tour of JohnLewis&Partners and The Bentalls Centre I popped into the Kingston branch of MarksandSpencer and was very impressed with the outfits that they had on display. I particularly liked the new range designed by Sienna Miller. Below are a few of the examples.

I love both the colour and style of this coat Green twill single-breasted tailored coat

Leather biker jacket

Tweed blazer

Bomber jacket yellow scarf

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Some really lovely wearable garments here and I only wish I were a few years younger as I would definitely treat myself. My problem is that I am now somewhat house-bound. The Sienna Miller coat is lovely as is the Timeless jacket. I shall take comfort in seeing you in your new garments, Josephine.

  • Some nice stuff Josephine! Although it’s still summer here in Canada and when I look at leather and sheepskin jackets with warm scarves, I feel hot!!!
I hate transitioning to winter clothes and prolong sandals and short pants as long as possible. But the inevitable will soon be upon us .
Also in your recent photo, I like your hair looking a little bit more messed up (Fluffy?), it makes you look younger. I often get told off by my daughter for (helmet hair very ageing) and try to make it look more casual.

  • I love autumn in general with all the vibrant colours, but your fashion preview excites me more. I love looking at the styles and colors presented in this most recent post. I am thinking about a new winter coat now and I love the Green twill. All mine are dark neutrals and a classic camel diving coat. Thank you for sharing!

  • thanks, enjoyed all your selection. what i need now is a waterproof that looks good , as I will be using public transport this winter , which entails waiting at bus stops in all weather.

  • Thank you Josephine for all your time and trouble in showing us these lovely clothes and giving us ideas how to wear and where to buy them. You are very much appreciated. Well done for losing weight, if you so intended. If you feel like divulging, how did you do it? I would love to be able to wear average store sizes....
