Reviewing my Spring Summer 2017 wardrobe

As the season comes to an end and before our thoughts turn to the colours and styles of Autumn 2017; I thought I would take this opportunity to review my Spring/Summer 2017 wardrobe. Blue continues to be my favourite colour from the pale hues to the deep navies.

This season I have tried some new brands; for example the “fair trade” brand People Tee. I have also been more adventurous with patterns and stripes.

The top row is a good example of layering. A strategy I find extremely useful especially in our variable UK climate.

Further examples of colours and shapes I favoured this season………

The classics are an essential part of a well-curated wardrobe. My basic neutrals are black/navy and cream. I favour simple shapes with the occasional “on trend” twist. My best jacket style is 3/4. I find this length both flattering (covers my hips) and works well with trousers. I experimented with the crop trouser trend and have a pair of cream linen and black both from MeandEm. I know this shape is not for everybody but I have found them both comfortable and useful. I wear more trousers than dresses as I find them extremely practical. However, when it is very hot I think dresses are cooler and feel more comfortable.

A soft pastel pink is my second favourite colour. I love my pink coat and will be wearing it well into Autumn. I am glad I tried it with a red sweater. A new colour combination that I will be wearing again. Lastly, when the temperatures rose I favoured my whites, creams and pale greys.

I have found this exercise extremely useful. The outfits above are a combination of items I already had in my wardrobe along with some new purchases.  It gives me an idea of where my budget has been spent. I don’t think that I have made any major errors this season.

A LIST OF BRANDS I FAVOUR:

MeandEm

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • What a lovely set of pics, Josephine I am in my "blue" phase too and find it so easy to match things with each other. I have tried the loose crop trouser look but it really doesn't suit me so i have left well alone but you wear it very well.
We are visiting the West Country next week with Canadian friends, staying in some lovely places, so i am sorting out my wardrobe for that, the long range forecast is promising so layering is the order of the day. Your pics are a great inspiration - thank you!

  • Hi Judy
I hope you enjoy your trip. Layers are definitely the way to go. Hope the long range forecast proves accurate. The weather has been a bit mercurial recently.

  • Love, love, love your web site, great ideas unfortunately I am only 5 feet so I can't wear a lot of your style suggestions but, they look fab. on you.

    • Thank you shirley and welcome to my blog. I have a friend who is just over 5ft and she wears similar styles to me however she chooses modified versions in the "petite ranges".
