When this dress arrived and I opened the parcel I had reservations. I found the style very flattering and the fabric a high quality linen. However I felt it was a bit “bling” for me. It might not have been love at first sight but it began to grow on me. I contacted the very efficient “customer support” at Hopefashion. My question was “will this dress soften and fade with wear and washing? The answer was yes so I decided to give it a go. I am very glad I did. I can definitely see myself wearing it in St. Tropez. Drifting along the beach at sunset or sipping cocktails on the terrace. Well at least in my dreams. My summer wardrobe needed a bit of a boost.

The Hope asymmetric silver dress is in the sale and has been reduced from £120 to £30. So it was a no brainer. I have washed it once and it has already mellowed. The blue silk scarf is by East.

I have teamed the dress with my MarksandSpencer pointy toe sling backs (UK link). My small deep pink bag is from Zara. Similar at Nordstrom and John Lewis.

I have added a pair of cut off linen trousers by Eileen Fisher to create a more casual look. The white sneakers also contribute to the laid back feel.

My necklace is a few seasons old similar at Etsy.

A word of warning. Linen does crease. Personally I love linen in the summer and don’t mind this look. Strangely I find that better quality linen tends to reflect this phenomena more than the thiner cheaper fabrics (which I don’t particularly like).

Grab yourself a designer bargain. This is a big week for designer sales shopping as Mytheresa, Net-a-porter.com and Matchesfashion.com have all gone into sale.

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • You look lovely, Josephine. Lovely to see you last night - are you still wearing the armband?!

    • Yes great to chat. Managed to get the armband off. How long did you stay "disco dancing!"

  • I love unique pieces like this! It is fantastic an I like that you styled it with pants as a tunic as well.

    • Hi Susan If you mean the dress I have just checked on the website and it still seems to be available. Before I posted the PR said there was reasonable stock left.

  • This looks so beautiful on you! Thinking of buying it for myself but I'm wondering about its length. May I ask how tall are you?

      • Hi Kim
I am 5ft 7inches (1.7 metres) if that helps. The dress is asymmetric so it is shorter one side than the other. If you need more information you could contact Hopefashion's customer service they are very helpful

      • No it is not see through. I am only wearing flesh coloured underwear underneath.

  • Josephine,

I don't think there's anything that doesn't look good on you! You wear everything well. I love your fashion sense and taste in clothes.

  • Thank you for your kind words Margie. I admit that I have been getting a bit out of my comfort zone this season and experimenting with new styles.
