I have resisted the new style “mules” for some time now. They were in evidence last year and my initial reaction was no way. How could you possibly walk in these shoes? Surely they will slip off.
Well the trend has endured and mules continue to be very much in evidence this season. So I thought I would try a pair. To my surprise they are not only comfortable but practical. My navy mules are by Marks&Spencer (US link). They are also available in red.
Having decided they are a good addition to our summer wardrobes I did further research. I discovered mules are available in a wide variety of styles and colours. I have chosen a selection of fun and decorative options for you to consider.
I am not sure I would wear them whilst carrying one of my grandchildren up and down steps or drive in them. However they will be very useful come summer. I will be adding them to my suitcase when I head from the South of France at the end of this month.
Haves you tried a pair yet and if so what do you think?

I've always loved mules! Even when they went out of style, I searched and searched... They are so comfortable for those of us who have trouble with shoes as you can move your foot around, slide them off partway, and not feel so confined! Love this trend....
I have a pair of black "patent" mules that I've worn for about five years...love them cuz they cover toesies! Not everyone's toes are beautiful, even though manicured! I think the mules (esp. solid colors) are more appropriate professionally/office wear than flip-flops or sandals that expose the whole foot.
I love them too and I am tempted to buy a pair but do they stay on if you are wearing tights?
Hi Ann
Good question. I had never thought of wearing them with tights. I don't wear tights in the summer only opaques in the winter. Probably because I wear trousers most of the time. I have worn my mules with a pair of pop sox this afternoon and to my surprise they did not slip off. I still prefer them with bare feet.
Must confess I have never felt comfortable in mules, even with heels. I always feel as if I'm going to lose them while walking down the street. Oddly enough, backless sandals w/open toes are no problem. I wonder why that is? And, of course, always with bare feet and polished (varnished) toes.
Have never been a fan of flip flops except post-pedicure.
