Style Forever – A grown-up guide to fashion

What a wonderful title and what a fantastic book. It is both entertaining and informative. It deserves pride of place in any fashionista’s library.

I have met Alyson Walsh and can definitely confirm that she walks her talk. She writes as she speaks with knowledge and authenticity.

I trained as an image consultant and have been around the fashion industry for many years. Yet I found loads of information in Alyson’s book that I had not even thought of.  All her advice is practical, cost effective and easy to implement.

The book is beautiful illustrated by Leo Greenfield and I particularly like the interviews with mature women who have all developed their own style and have not been swayed by passing trends.

The book is easy to navigate as it is divided into manageable sections. I like the “Grown-up style tribe” section. I probably come under the category of “Gentlewoman” (below left) aspiring to “fabulous femme” (below right).

How ever many books on fashion and beauty you already have on your shelves I highly recommend you add “Style Forever” to your list.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Looking forward to its release in North america - I checked and could not find it here yet. Soon, I hope!

  • Wendymm, Amazon Canada has just informed me that the book will be released on September 1st.

  • Looks good - also my Look Fabulous Forever parcel arrived this morning on recommendation you gave a few weeks ago. Really looking forward to using the products. Also hoping to stop off at your Hotel Courban on our way to the Provence in June.

  • Thank you so much, Josephine. I'm so pleased that you like Style Forever & hope to catch-up with you again in person very soon.

  • I love Leo Greenfield's fashion illustrations. I'll look out to see if "Style Forever" has been published in Australia. Thanks for the tip!

  • Brilliant book, great advice - has made me have a good old re-think over quite a few things!
Although, bit confusing early on to be told Not to wear Boring Beige - then later on, how wonderful camel can be! But - still buy it!

    • Hi ElaineW
I never wear beige it really washes me out. I think if you team camel with a neutral like navy and black it can still look chic.
