The accessories edition – St Tropez market

The accessories edition – St Tropez market

Even more than the clothes in the market I love to explore the accessories. Wicker baskets and bags are the most popular items on display this season. I loved these round ones; possibly not the most practical but definitely cute. I observed many french women carrying one or with one slung over their shoulder.

Personally I am not that keen on logos however if you wanted to show that you had visited St Tropez market these would do the trick

I prefer these more traditional versions of the Fouta.. They are multi-taskers; you can wear them as scarves or sling them over your shoulder. I often see women on the beach with one tied around their waist.

If you prefer to use them as decoration they look good slung over sofas, placed at the end of a bed or as table runners.

Now for my favourite accessory – scarves and more scarves, I just love the bright vibrant colours. They are reminiscent of the blue skies and the colourful flowers in the South of France.

This year’s themes are tropical flora and fauna and the oceans. Motifs of lobsters, fish, coral and swimmers are in evidence.

Parrots and other tropical birds featured on the larger scarves/pareos.

Cowboy hats anyone? This is such a St.Tropez vibe reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot in the late fifties. You still see this look in the village and particularly on the beaches.

I love the freshness of this white tunic shirt. Large belts are very popular this year. I rather regret getting rid of mine a few years ago thinking that I would never wear them again. I think this shirt would look equally good worn loose without the belt.

Embroidered baskets. I am very tempted; my traditional plain version is getting a bit old, maybe I should treat myself!

I think that I am definitely going to stock some of these brightly coloured kaftans in the shop. They are 100% cotton and one size fits all.

What do you think of the kaftan I am wearing above? Would it be something that you would wear as I might be able to get a few for the shop?

I hope you enjoyed this mini tour of St.Tropez market – the accessories edition.

If you didn’t catch my last post on kaftans in the market you can read it here.

Our Chicatanyage shop will re-open on 1st July when we will have a new and vibrant selection of vibrant scarves and kaftans available. Do pop back then.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

    • I love your posts from the market. Everything is so colourful. I’m sure the Kaftans would be popular.
Could I ask for your advice Josephine? You always look so polished and appropriately dressed and you have helped me decide about a purchase before. I am 65, 5ft 6ins tall and size 12 with a small bust. I’m not really overweight and keep quite active, but I’m not terribly body confident. My son is to be married in September, at Ballymoloe House in Co. Cork. It is a smart place, but I am told it is also quite relaxed. I want to be comfortably and appropriately dressed and wondered if you think that a maxi dress would be suitable for the occasion and for my age.
I would really appreciate your opinion.
      Vicki.

      • I would love to buy the striped kaftans in the background of your picture, so bright & colourful.

        • Hi Carol
Yes they are lovely. They have a very subtle lurex stripe which makes them very glam and St. Tropez

      • Hi Vicki
I think the idea of a maxi dress for your sons wedding sounds ideal. They are pretty much ageless and you can dress it up with some statement jewellery and depending on the weather and if like me you are no longer into heels a maxi can look great with a flat shoe or lower heel. Weddings outfits are becoming more and more casual and comfortable. No longer do you have to dress in very stiff and starchy formal clothes.

        • Thank you Josephine you have helped me make my decision. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

  • I've had my eye on those cute round straw bags since last summer...and finally found just the right one at the Aix market last Saturday :)

  • I love scarfs. Caftans are a great idea, I do prefer a sleeve at least to the elbow, as I like to keep the sun off me. Just a thought.

  • It’s so difficult to get pure cotton kaftans in UK. It’s a yes please from me - I would be very interested in buying them from your shop.

  • Yes! I would be interested in kaftans in the shop. Like you, the pink one was my favorite.
Such wonderful photography. It's a very cheery tour through the market!

    • Hi Nicole
I can't get the exact kaftan I think you mention. However, I do have some lovely pink stripy ones on order which will be in stock from 1st July. So pop back then.
