Time to think of a new winter coat

Time to think of a new winter coat.

It is never too soon to think about a new winter coat, and this year we are spoilt for choice from tartans, houndstooths, shaggy sheepskins and capes. The aesthetic I like best for a classic coat that can be worn for many years is pared down with the focus on long, clean lines. These coats have a timeless appeal that should long outlast this seasons fads.

This year greens in many shades have returned after decades in the wilderness. It seems like years since I have worn a nice deep bottle green. It is one of my favourite colours and I had nearly forgotten about it.

Green may not be for everybody. I have met some women who are superstitious regarding green associating it with misfortune. However on a positive note it often represents nature and growth,

Coat I am wearing is by MandS . Since I took the photos on Sunday this coat has been selling well so if you can’t find your size you might like these alternatives here and here.

A bit more expensive Hobbs do an excellent one as does Gerard Darel.

I decided to be a bit more adventurous than normal and teamed the coat with a pair of print trousers from the summer (a good way to transition and extend your wardrobe). Similar here with a wider choice here.

Will you be buying a new winter coat this season and if so what are you looking for?

I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • That's an awesome coat and I love the colour! I have too many dark coats and although I'd need a new camel coat for the autumn season, I am also looking into more colourful ones. The dark season needs to be brightened up!

    • Hi Annette
I have a pink one from two seasons ago. It is not that warm but a great colour on a grey day. I will probably wear a bright sweater or scarf with the green coat to cheer things up.

  • Yes I'm looking for a new winter coat. As I am quite short I usually prefer a three quarter length. Have seen a nice one in Next in caramel colour I will probably go for.

  • It looks great on you! Good colour with blond hair.
I have not been quite so adventurous buying the v necked sweater in bottle green and patterned trousers. I had a fabulous elephant cord bottle green three quarter coat in the late sixties. Look forward to seeing more green! Thank you
