Tips on how to style a long line cardigan

I love cardigans, I always have. In my opinion, they are one of the unsung heroes of a well-curated wardrobe. They are an item of clothing particularly suited to the British climate, which can be extremely variable, sometimes we can experience all the seasons in one day. They are also very useful for travelling. I never go anywhere without one in my suitcase. My indulgence this season alongside my navy trench coat has been a longline cashmere cardigan. I chose a longline cashmere cardigan from Autograph at MarksandSpencer. Today I will show you a few tips on how to style a long line cardigan. I am wearing a medium. It is meant to be oversized, which I like. If you want it to fit more snuggly I would suggest that you go down a size. In the image above I am buttoned up and loose over my wide-leg jeans.

Add a brightly coloured scarf to lift an otherwise neutral-toned outfit. The scarf that I am wearing is 100% cashmere is available at the Chicatanyage shop.

I am wearing an off white frill collared blouse as I think it adds a feminine touch to the masculine style cardigan.

Add the added advantage of buying a long line cardigan is that it will double as a soft jacket. Just add a belt and the outfit becomes more formal

I do love my hats. The one that I am wearing is a fedora, several years old.

I hope the photos of how I am wearing my new cardigan will give you some tips on how to style a long line cardigan in various different ways.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • I have been searching for a frill/piecrust collared blouse here in the USA. Any ideas where one can be found?
I love this look with your long cardigan!
    Many thanks

    • Troll through Walmart and Amazon sites. I have purchased dozens of pretty, feminine blouses from them. Allegra K is available through both sites. Unique Bargains (often identical to Allegra K) is on Walmart. Scoop on Walmart also often has girly blouses. I’ve found many pie crust collar blouses which I adore.

    • Hello

      Thank you for your comment.

I am currently doing some research on Pie neck blouses and will add a selection to my next post.

      best wishes

  • I can’t have too many cardigans. Love all styles, but particularly a long cardigan, like yours, over a shorter length feminine blouse or a traditional length cardigan over a longer length feminine blouse. It is my “uniform” outside of summer. I wear mine open, but would like all of your looks with my looser fitting cardigans. I have a full rainbow of colors, but navy is my favorite and most worn in all styles. I, too, love hats. You look so cute in your fedora. Fedoras and cloche hats are my favorite. So happy that sweater weather is here! And scarf weather!
