French markets

Visit to St.Tropez market Part II

Part 11 of my visit to St.Tropez market. I always try to take a photo of my favourite shop as I walk from the bus stop to Place de Lice where the market is held. It is not easy to get a good shot as there is a lot of reflection from the windows. However, it is worth it as I consider that the window displays really reflect the chic “ensembles” suitable for women of our age. I would love to shop here but have only managed a couple of purchases in their sale. The prices are high as they use high-quality fabrics. I just love the simplicity of the shapes and the way they combine colours, not to mention the quirky accessories.

I saw a lot of this mustard yellow colour when I visited Paris, see more here. I have also noticed that these long tassel necklaces are very “au courant” this season.

Stripes are also very popular in France this season. I have spotted several elegant French women wearing similar dresses to the one above.

One of my favourite stalls in the market. I buy these freshwater pearls in various shades of ivory and blush pink and wear about three or four together.

These bags are just so cute!

I hope you enjoyed my mini tour of St.Tropez shops and market. If you missed my previous trip to the market you can read it here.

I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Oooh I do love your market - some really lovely things that I haven't seen in Aix!

    • Love that navy striped shirt! Bet it’s totally unavailable anywhere here? How did you resist all those goodies, Josephine?

        • Hi Miriam
I will have a look and see if I can find anything similar when I get back to London. Cos might have something.

      • Hi Sara
With difficulty but the prices in that shop are high so I have to wait for the sales. I will be back there tomorrow morning so may well be tempted by another scarf and one of those plaited leather bags.

  • I am very jealous! All those outfits and colors are so so perfect. Please, can we all come with you????

  • Confess I have never really gone for yellow but the other day I wore trousers and a top bought under strip lighting. When I got home they were more "yellow" than I had thought. Wore them in London the other weekend and was told I looked "very nice"! I still felt "uncomfortable" in the colour.
    Looks good with navy.

    • Yes yellow does divide opinion it is not my best colour so I stick to accessories a bag or a pair of shoes.

  • Lovely pictures, Josephine. The striped outfit in the first picture is just divine ! Still not too keen on yellow but I may warm up to it before the end of the summer !

  • Thank you for sharing the pics of the window displays. As you say, beautiful clothes and colour combos.

  • I had my first visit to the st. Tropez market in June what a revelation it was. I bought a long acorn colour linen dress that the owner persuaded me to pair with a mustard leather belt. I don’t do belts, at 68 I don’t have a waist anymore but she put it below my waist on an angle and I just love it. I live on the west coast of canada and so enjoy your posts.

    • Hi Penelope
I think I know which stall where you bought your linen dress. It sounds lovely.

  • Oh how i love your posts from St Tropez ! I think if i were you, i'd have to drag myself home ! I'd also want to throw out my wardrobe and start again, a la Francaise !

  • We've been trying to go to St Tropez for about 15 years, but because of the traffic have never managed it. Since I discovered your blog (the first blog I ever read) and you mentioned the market we have tried again to go either Tuesday or Saturday, but as we no longer hire a car we have to go by ferry or train/bus. Still no joy - sea too choppy for a pleasant journey from Cannes, too early in the season for the trips to have started and this year the added rail strike. I think there's a conspiracy!

I've never been really impressed by French markets, always preferring the Itallian ones, but your reports of the ST market make me drool, and the shop - well what can I say. Carry on reporting.

    • Hi Susan
I agree the train strikes have been a nuisance this year. Normally it should be easy to get a train from Cannes to San Raphael and then a bus into St. Tropez. I do that journey quite often from Nice airport.
I went back to the market last Tuesday and it is getting a bit too hot and crowded for my liking. I prefer earlier in the season or later in September/October.
Hope you get there one day as it is worth it.

  • I may have to consider a trip to St Tropez. While I don't mind traveling alone, it would be nice to have someone with me. Brenda

  • I agree Brenda it is more fun in the market with a friend. However I still often go on my own and still find it interesting.
