How I wear Rose Quartz for Spring 2016

The second instalment of “should older women wear pastel colours”. Also continuing my series on “how to adapt Spring 2014” trends.

Read my post on “serenity blue” where I showcase a pale blue sweater and scarf combo.  This week I am trying “rose quartz”. Pink is one of my favourite colours. I usually wear a stronger shade and thought that perhaps this pale muted tone would make me look a bit washed out.

To my surprise I found the colour flattering and soft with my grey/blonde hair.  I needed to tone down my usually brightish pink lipstick.

To stress the point again it is “how you wear it”.  Modern styling is essential. I am a fan of sleeveless jackets/waistcoats, especially those that cover the hip area. The one above is by MandS. I have teamed it with a shirt  that I bought from MeandM a couple of seasons ago.

If you don’t feel that “rose quartz”  worn near the face will work for you, try a nod to this colour trend with a summer bag, jewellery or shoes.

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Wow! What a great color for you! I too love pink but am not sure about going this pale. I'm going to check it out though because it's just lovely! Fingers crossed.

  • Love these pastels, they are stunning and kinder I think on our more mature skin and hair colouring but I also think make up is very important to balance the delicate shades. A pretty blusher and lipstick workwonders for most of us. Love the pink and the blue, wonder what you have in store for us next?

  • I have to say the pink, sleeveless jacket looks much better on you than the young model M&S chose!

  • You look so lovely in this color, Josephine! The overall look soft but still modern and fresh.

  • I agree with your point of view of this article. This is a good article. Very timely given us so much useful information. Thank you!

  • I used to wear this colour all the time, but now I find it makes me look faded. As you say, it still works in a scarf, shoes or my current favorite pink, white and black handbag.
