What to pack for a Spring Cruise

It is the time of year when out thoughts turn to holidays. Possibly this year you may be thinking of taking a cruise.

The success of packing for a summer cruise lies in the art of blending smart with casual and opting for a neutral palette, with a pop of this season’s bright accents. Gone are the days of packing trunks with enough outfits to dress the entire ship! Instead the savvy seafarer should follow some simple guidelines that result in lightweight luggage (far more economical when flying to join your ship) filled with an on trend and chic cruising wardrobe.

Clothing choices will depend on your ports of call and the weather conditions. A cashmere wrap or sweater is always useful. For hotter climates opt for shorts, trousers, skirts and tops in light and natural fabrics. Remember to always wear your bulkiest clothes to travel.  Comfortable rubber soled loafers are essential. Ideal for a brisk walk on the deck or a days sightseeing. This season trainers, plimsolls and skaters are very on trend. For when you finally get to that much longed for sun lounger pack two or three swimming costumes. A tunic in printed silk or a cotton kaftan will tap into the boho vibe and serve as cover ups during the day. Teamed with loose trousers or cut off capri pants they will provide stylish evening outfits. Add a necklace or bangle for a touch of glamour; ethnic or tribal style will definitely say summer 2015!

Chicatanyage

I write a fashion and beauty blog for women over 50 with the aim of inspiring mature women to continue to enjoy and have fun with their fashion choices. I have spent most of my working life in some way connected to fashion. I started my career in Fashion PR and then trained as an Image Consultant when my children were young. I subsequently worked in the corporate world running seminars, doing private coaching and speaking at conferences. I started my blog in 2009 as I wanted to share my years of experience working in the world of fashion. I truly believe we can continue to have confidence in the way we present ourselves. Our style may evolve with time and changing lifestyles, yet with a little knowledge and inspiration, we can all continue to have fun with fashion. As women of a certain age we are a growing demographic let us prove that we can also be a chic one.

  • Josephine. Our mutual love for Winser London goes on! Thanks for these posts on wardrobe suggestions they are so helpful
    Best wishes. Margo

  • Lovely capsule! The only cruise we've ever done was to Alaska a few years ago. We're still hoping to do a small-boat cruise on HaLong Bay in Vietnam someday.

  • Very useful. Arms are a dilemma though - all the pretty dresses seem to be sleeeveless and I'm so tired of the bolero!

    • Hi Linda

I agree with you on the arms. I am working on a post at the moment for dresses with sleeves. I just thought the print dress so fresh and pretty and it does have tiny cap sleeves that just cover up that unsightly bit at the very top of the arms.

  • I don't have a cruise planned, but as usual, your recommendations are stellar! Of course your included a hat, which always improves the enjoyment of any occasion. Thank you so much for sharing your beauty with Hat Attack!
